Obviously it's pronounced "ass-pea".
Guys named "Charles" often go by "Charlie", or gals named "Susan" go by "Suzy". So folks with aspergers will refer to each other as "aspies".
Though that does raise an interesting question.
That affectionate long e" ending we stick onto names in the English speaking world is roughly equivalent to the "ito/ita" ending they stick on to names in Spanish. The Spanish equivalent of "Charles" is "Carlos". But guys named Carlos often go by "Carlito" (like Carlito Santana). So in Spanish an aspie male could be called an "Aspito", and a girl an "aspita".
