I had jury duty yesterday and TODAY I am still stimulated from the anxiety.

Is there some medicine to take for sensory overload (anxiety) to CALM me down?'

A depressant?

The doc prescribed a beta-blocker to slow down my heart rate.  While I would not swear by its ability to calm me down, it is reasonable to admit that I haven't punched anyone in the face lately.

Beta-blockers work best for short-term event-related anxiety, such as social phobias and stage fright by blocking physical symptoms of anxiety including rapid heart rate, tightness in the chest, or sweating. They don’t affect the emotional and psychological aspects of anxiety such as worry.

The beta-blockers most commonly prescribed for anxiety include propranolol (Inderal) and atenolol (Tenormin).

That sounds good …

Beta blockers are drugs that block the effects of stress hormones norepinephrine and epinephrine (adrenaline). These hormones are what cause the physical symptoms of anxiety and blocking them reduces these effects, helping control some of the physical symptoms of anxiety.

Beta blockers work and so do benzodiazepines. I am not a doctor. Please consult yours to find out what is right for you.

It definitely helps dealing with life/situations that induce anxiety from my experience. There was a lot that I struggled with prior to taking it. I was scared that it might change my personality before taking it but that hasn't been the case.

It doesn't completely get rid of the anxiety, but it lessens it and makes situations more bearable. The dosage should be increased very slowly if someone thinks that they need more than their initial dose.
