I have Level 1 autism (asperger's syndrome). I was wondering for those who did come out of the closet, what was the reaction of people around you. What did your parents, siblings, people at work think and do? Did you get a positive reaction or a negative one? What things did people say that made it worse? What made it better? If you could make the choice again would you stay in the closet or come out? Why?

Greetings. I've been taking that step very slowly after being diagnosed with ASD LV1 in January. My results have been mixed:

Wife: She's supportive of me and maintains that a diagnosis didn't change who I am to her. She loves me all the same.

Children (grade school and middle school): Ambivalent; no known opinions about it at this time. Maybe they'll have opinions later in life.

Old friend from high school I email with back and forth on an annual or semi-annual basis: Stopped emailed me back abruptly and entirely.

One of my children's teachers: Positive response.
