Does anyone else get this when acutely stressed? I used to get it quite a lot when at my last address. I'm less stressed here as I've got good support and have not had flu like symptoms since I've been here . Instead of the flu like symptoms sometimes I'd experience derealisation .

When you are under severe stress, your immune system is depressed. As a result you will be more susceptible to the flu.

What are the flu like symptoms? Fever, chills, cough? I thought for 8 years I was having sinus colds every month and finally realized they are migraines (headache, nausea).

My good friend's NT husband has that at least once a month. That said he had MAJOR surgery 15 years ago or so and chalks it up to that: that his body is just not right. He doesn't seem particularly stressed and isn't on immunosuppressants. I am glad you are less stressed in your new environment and hoping you found an abundance of spoons to get back on your feet: strong.

That has happened to me. Symptoms: sudden onset of very stuffy nose, serial sneezing and sometimes diarrhea. The first two come out of the blue, and usually lasts up to some hours.

Now this sounds kinda wild,, when i write this ,but 13 yrs research had led me too this potential in aspies. First blood test plz use lab , Igenex in Palo Alto . Calif. Have them check for babesiosis
Bacteria and any strain of borrelia burgdorphi . And the associated titers ,will be on the results.
(Titer) the level of any particular strain of these bacteria . . The oddness of these periodic flu type symptoms , (and a bunch others). Have been related to the prevelence of these bacteria in aspies.
The tests are expensive sorry , unless you are on some form of assistance . Advise lab of your financial situation, if you are able too. Issue here is a cumulative level of these bacteria build up and create more havouc as you become older . Am not a doctor only researcher . But have been down the rabbit hole. And back. Can guarrantee this is rare info to be able to have. Smarter Aspie ,treating M.D. type doc. Would be able to help reccomend . Lab to do the blood draw. Special instructions to get the blood tested within certain time frame . (References to infectious disease . Lyme Literate MD )
Aforementioned bacteria very nearly killed me . All based on personal experience/research .No exaggeration intended.
Be as well as you can.

Btw found symptoms at light to moderate level can be controlled by allergy meds .
Use info or not . No worries , opinions are only based out of human concern for aspies.

I will get cold symptoms when stressed, especially if I'm very stressed and start having intrusive thoughts. The more I talk to myself and come back to the moment, the more they go away. This will happen when I'm not actually sick.

I get the flu-like stuff when I get stressed (which is a lot of the time) and have actually been struggling with it for a few weeks now. I've found planning my days with lists usually helps with the stress- I can just look over what I've got to do several times instead of trying to recall it all and order it all mentally. Achiness is awful though. Any tips anyone has, send them my way please .

When I am really stressed and particularly if I'm exhausted, I will actually throw up.
I will also be more likely to get a migraine which almost always leads to throwing up as well.
But, just being stressed can lead to nausea and throwing up.

I wanted to add that the less complicated I can make my life and the more I can stay hydrated the less often these illnesses occur.

The common factor is inflammation:
Inflammation is a response to stress overload
Inflammation is a hallmark response to flu infection.

Inflammation is an important process, and (curiously) not yet well understood by the general public.

I think anxiety symptoms are ten times worse than the flu, partially because people can see when you have a bug. No one tells someone with the flu to "suck it up".

When my stress is made worse, before exams for example, I get a long low level cold and then when it passes become very ill. It's like my body knows that now the important event has passed it's free to make me as sick as it wishes.
