in terms of not being able to maintain a set schedule of waking and sleeping. in my case, ever since i could remember, i have had a natural urge to fall asleep later and later, until everything is inverted and i'm nocturnal. this played havoc when i was in the rat race but since leaving that behind [THANK GOD!!] it is mostly an inconvenience in terms of me having to get up with an alarm specially "early" in order to interact with a mostly diurnal world in terms of doing errands. anybody else "rock around the clock" this way?

I simply have to be asleep and wake up at certain times or my whole life is ruined.

I’ve had about 7 hours of sleep in the last 3 days.

Stupid neighbors and their stupid Mariachi band practices.

I’ll be glad when Dia De Los Muertas is over.

I have to wake up at the same time every day. If I wake up early it's slightly irritating, but if I wake up late it throws my day and mood way off. :?

I'm told that my landlady's son has nicknamed me "The Vampire". I wouldn't hear it from him, of course, as I'm so often in my "coffin" when he's here visiting her. [What an appropriate day to bring this up! :lol: ] Over the last fortnight, I've had at least three nights where I've decided to stay awake around the clock in an attempt to "reset" myself (I don't know why I still do this, it never really seems to work). It won't be long now until the point in the year comes when I simply don't see any daylight at all for a few days at a time. I don't recall ever having been any different (I learned at a very young age how to exist almost silently so as not to disturb anyone else in the household).

I've tried establishing routines and "sleep hygiene", especially at times when I've been working. I've been prescribed countless medications, tried light-boxes, meditation to clear my mind, etc., etc... None of those things things have had any significant benefit, let alone a lasting one. I can just about maintain a stable schedule with 8-ish hours sleep for periods of a week or two if I go to bed at about 4am-6am, but even that routine always succumbs after a while. Sleep deprivation is just something I've got used to suffering ever since forcing myself into the school routine as a child (mornings weren't much fun for anyone, as my Mum shares this trait).

It's interesting that you used "biorhythms" in the title - I agree; it's not just my sleep that's out of kilter. The times when I feel hungry or even able to eat anything are similarly all over the place. So sharing meals with other people is also rather a problem - I often just don't feel ready to eat at those times, or not ready for the meal "appropriate" to the time of day.

Mine is. In more ways than one.
It's not just about my sleep patterns. But also my reproductive cycles, how I react to climate, my 'habits', my moods...

Just my whole functioning seems like a whole irregular cycle itself.
Not knowing if it starts or ends when it's on a subtle side, and it's ignoring too many physical factors no matter how it is sustained.


I won't be surprised if I woke up with full blown disability one day and wake up with full blown functioning at the next.

I do not mind staying up a bit later than usual, but past 12 AM is a nope. Why? Because no matter what time I go to sleep, I will wake up at around 6AM or so. No staying up late for a Friday night beer for me!

Arguably, the most interesting thing about my sleep is not my regularity, but my incredible ability to wake myself up any time of night I so desire as long as it's earlier than 6AM. I have no idea how I do this.

My biorhythms are all mixed up and have been since I was a child. The last solo canoe trip, with no time piece, I slept when I was tired, ate when I was hungry, didn't eat when I wasn't hungry, got up when I felt like it. It was wonderful.

Changing back from Daylight Savings Time this Sunday morning will throw my circadian rhythms off for a few weeks. Expect more irrationality from me than usual during that time.

My biorhythm is longer than 24 hours. Maybe something like 24,5 hours.
As a result like you, I fall asleep later and later.
I have considered to just let it happen, because at a certain point, after being completely upside down, my rhythm will be getting back to normal.
Unfortunately I never got around to trying this. As soon as social expectations demand it, I have to get up at a reasonable time. I get so sleep deprived after a few days that I have to go to bed early.

After which everything starts over...

My crazy job with its odd hours inflicts abuse upon my sleep cycle. Also I have a bad habit of wolfing down piles of food and giving myself "food comas" and napping at odd times. Am now getting better at not doing that. But that's the outside world inflicting on my rhythms. Not an internal thing.
