How would you define it ? Is it someone whose primary focus is on helping someone ?

They could be one and the same. A caregiver is someone whose "job" it is to care for someone else. Like a parent is a caregiver to a child. It is the parent's actual job to care for the child. A person can be a paid caregiver where that is their actual profession or a caregiver in the sense that they care for the needs of the person that they are helping. A supportive person gives different kinds of support when he can or when he wants to but he is not responsible for caring for the needs of the person who is being looked after. The caregiver is actually responsible for providing care.
