I was taught that it is best to be introduced to new people by those one already knows. This is probably a British influence in my case, but it certainly helps, since the older friend can suggest mutual interests, vouch for reliability, and so on. However, I see a lot of people introducing themselves to strangers even when neither is working with the public. I am wondering what percentage of a person's friends are usually from self-introductions, for NTs and for us. What is a reasonable success rate? Obviously, the self-intro will fail more often, so I'm thinking of making it a goal to make many trials, rather than to do one perfectly.
