Hi, I'm Spede!

Actually, my real name is not Spede... Spede isn't even a real name, it's just a nickname that I took from one Finnish comedian.

I'm 24-years old woman, well actually, I'm transwoman if we are talking The truth over here.

I haven't been diagnosed with autism yet, but I once went to psychologist and she said that it sounds a lot like that I have high-funtioning autism and OCD.

I have always been very bad in social situations, I got very anxious when I try to talk with people that I don't know.

I have dyslexia, so sorry about my bad spelling, and I'm also very sorry about that I am not a good witch neither, because I cannot spell.

I'm bored very easily.

I don't like to get touched by people.

I don't like loud noises, when I was young I didn't like dogs, because they are usually so lousy animals.

I have very narrow interests, for example, Nintendo games have been one of my special interests since I was a kid.

Cartoons and anime are one of my special interests too.

I have a poor balance.

I don't have many friends.

I like drawing and painting.

I’d have to meet you in person in order to answer your question properly.

You seem to have some “symptoms.”

I forgot to mention that I cannot look strangers into eyes, because it makes me anxious.

Oh, and also, I forgot to mention my poor working memory.

Executive functioning issues, such as poor working memory, are a medium sign.

Sensory issues are another medium sign.

You mention not liking being touched and not liking loud noises. Are there other sensory issues, such as being bothered more than average by a buzzing fluorescent light even if not all that loud, or being bothered more than average by the smell of cleaning chemicals?

And if it turns out that you’re fully Aspergers-Autism Spectrum, or just Spectrum-friendly as it were, I still think it’s cool and neat for you to participate here at WrongPlanet! :D

Welcome!

There are nuances. My husband isn't social nor makes eye contact much - he is not Autistic (he is an Avoider). I am very social and make eye contact, but I am Autistic. It's the WAY of making eye contact (I tend to stare rather than conforming to my culture's cadence), the WAY of socializing (I am hot and cold, lots of misunderstandings). How does one even answer the questions? I like being touched when and where I want to be touched and dislike it otherwise (and I get quite upset). Is that a "yes" or "no"? I am honest to a fault and yet I live a lie (suppressing my ASD tendencies). I count that one as a "yes" for honesty.

I find ASD to be about extremes: extremely sensitive (I feel joy six times a day, and extreme upset also) or extremely not (my AS-like BFF has felt joy once in her life, maybe).

I found some lists online (for women) and read some memoirs (by women) and when I saw myself in near every paragraph and in every chapter, well, that's a bit too coincidental, isn't it?

Too bad I don't "pass" the diagnostic tests --- sarcasm: I'm too optimistic and feminine apparently to be Autistic. I'm "normal" for myself (routines? No, but I do the same thing every time, but it's not what I would call a "routine"). In seriousness: I was diagnosed with ASD by a clinician knowledgeable of how ASD presents in adult women. That said, my AS-like BFF is the stereotype ASD: flat expressions, thoughtful, controlled (she lives "small") and she still scores low b/c she's "normal" to herself. (Rude? No, but she does get sent to workplace Communication classes - b/c people don't understand!)

I get this. Eye contact comes naturally (like breathing) to me around people I know or if I have a reason to make eye contact (for example if I'm being served by a cashier). But if I am about to pass a stranger in the street I just cannot look at them. It makes it awkward though when there's somebody I know because it looks like I'm deliberately ignoring them but I'm not.

Lacking eye contact can be an ASD trait but selective eye contact is more of a social anxiety thing. I have social anxiety.
