Following the Outline of Things as a Form of Stimming

Have you ever done this?
I was aiding a student who has autism in a classroom and noticed his hand movements aligned with the outlines of things - the branches of a tree outside the window or the parameters of the room itself.
I remember doing this sort of thing when I was younger, but I’d usually just use my eyes and wouldn’t actually use my hands.
This student also verbally stimmed a lot.
