Just something I do...not always successful though but I try and avoid as many cracks in the side walk as possible- if I'm lucky that's all of them. I'm 21 years old...sounds more like something a little kid would do probably.

Also how do you look when you walk?

I am very awkward looking, my arms are pretty stationary with a slight bend, I might be slowching a little bit but I try to walk upright. I am stairing at the side walk as to see cracks coming up but one I have the cracks figured out I am staring at everything else around me. Such as the buildings and the architecture that went into them, also women but they avoid my gaze- looking at them because they are pretty usually.

I feel like I am stuck in a kids mind, but an adults body.

Just wanna see if anyone can relate....=/

I make patterns in my mind with all the cracks, bisecting angles or drawing lines from point to point, and stepping onto and around the patterns. In some patterns, stepping on lines is mandatory or sometimes mandatory depending on the line. Sometimes it's not. Depends on the pattern.

I just think this is because I have a need to analyze and see details at all times, so naturally I pattern up the details. As a kid, I patterned everything I saw. I still have some pictures of me at two, sorting dried beans and pasta. :)

Apparently my arms swing out pretty wide; other than that, it's bouncy but not too odd. I often hold my hands in fists or in odd positions, though; that's not happening in this picture.

I compulsively avoid stepping on cracks... I try to distract myself.

One time, my mum was babysitting those three kids, when I was 9. The oldest of those kids said, "If you step on a crack, you'll break your mum's back!" For an entire month afterwards, I was stepping over all of the cracks, on the sidewalks that I walked on.

I had a lot of obsessive-compulsive tendencies as a kid. Avoiding sidewalk lines/cracks was definitely one of them. I also could NOT resist the urge to read any and all text I saw out in public. Being forced to do things like this made me uncomfortable tho, so I actively tried to kill those habits. I still do a lot of things internally tho, like lining up objects with my eyes that are at different distances in front of me. Ive got a strong affinity for geometry, but I dont obsess over arranging things geometrically anymore.

As for posture, Im not sure if I walk funny but I wouldnt be surprised. This year I noticed I hold my shoulders up rather awkwardly most of time. Ive been trying to lower them.

ha ya, i don't know if that saying is stuck in my mind subconsciously or I am just pattern oriented and want to make sure I don't disrupt the pattern in the side walk with my steps...

I'm not sure about cracks but I still play games by avoiding stepping on certain tiles on tile floor. Careful the dark ones are lava :)

I also draw an imaginary zig-zagging line in between the dotted lines in the street while in moving vehicles with my eyes... not sure why but I've done that since I was a kid... makes my eyes hurt after awhile.

I think I just do stuff like that because life is so boring and it's easy to make games out of monotonous things... who knows... maybe now I'll avoid cracks :)

As far as how I walk... I feel the same way as I barely move my arms and walk in a semi slouched manner usually staring downward (The upside is I'll never step in dog... stuff). If I try I can walk tall... but I can never manage to keep moving my arms. My dad has teased me about that all my life >_<

Definitely! Its just not as comfortable walking over a gap I guess, or that phrase stuck in my head as well. Anything from cracks in the cement to the actual seperations between tiles. Like I dont make sure for EVERY Crack, but if I see it I tend to avoid them(step over them)

I do this when I start getting anxious.

I always feel really awkward and off balance when I'm walking. I've been stopped before by a cop because they thought I was drunk.

lol I remember doing this when I was a kid. There were blue, gray, and white tiles on the floors at school. I would always try to only step on certain colors. It was kind of a personal challenge, I guess.

Yes - avoid the cracks and ensure that my strides are of such length that my right foot completes the square on a count of four or, if not, ensure that the set of four can be completed in subsequent squares, or at least compensated for in some other way. If the set of four is not completed, it feels weird and moreso if any of the cracks are touched which is why the strides are carefully estimated to allow room for error. Not limited to footpaths - patches of carpet between two identifiable points, the space between the elevators and the beginning of the carpet, the number of steps in a flight of stairs. It's irritating to note that the first set of steps across the railway bridge has a count of 13 (including the top riser) - not that it's an unlucky number, but it's odd and it isn't a multiple of four. Not as strict as I used to be when younger. :?

If they are big enough to fall into and die, I do.

Sometimes, with my daughter, we step on all the metal covers for gas, electricity, telephones, water. It means meandering from side-to-side and annoying all the other pedestrians. I think it is a very effective means of feeling better in public, because (despite creating more friction with passersby) it takes away the bad feelings, and a few adults think it is amusing when they see a grown-up playing with a child.

Every once in a while. Depends on my mood and the day. I do the "counting my steps per sidewalk square" thing a bit too. Lately I've undergone a posture change - I'm not sure why, but I often find myself walking with my shoulders spiked and my hands turned so thunbs point outwards. This is something my grandpa used to tell me to do (20 years ago) to "improve" my posture... strange that it's coming out now and unconciously. I find I'm gritting my teeth when I do it too. Give me back my slouch!

I didn't really get along with my mom when I was little (or vice versa), so I would often try to step on every single crack on the way to school and back home again

Nowadays I don't really bother, but I do still watch where I walk, because I'm awfully good at tripping over nothing at all.

No, and I think they are very beautiful (cracks in the pavement, not lines). The town does not agree with me as they recently repaved my road. :(
Walking feels a little unnatural to me. I have walked for 2 hours a day for several years. If I miss a day, then the next time I go for a walk it seems awkward. Without medication I'm sure my walking is very noticeably weird, if it is not already.
