Being able to know what a word means when you see it , and to use it correctly . However when asked to describe the word you really struggle .

It won't let me post the link to the PDF . :(

It's the 'Test of Interpretive Power' which can be found at https://iqexams.net/

My youngest brother did this since a v young age. He has PDDNOS by the way..

He said v v v witty n intelligent n funny things but often he only used the big words properly from sheer intelligence .. Inferring just from how he saw it used maybe..

He would use it properly in normal cobversation functionally.. Then ask what the word meant

I knew what the word "pariah" meant-----but when I was asked to define it during an IQ test, I just couldn't come up with the proper words.

I thought everyone had this. I've asked people before what certain words mean and people have said "I know what it means but I can't explain it".

I use the word "the" every day but if you asked me what it means I wouldn't have a clue how to explain it unless I looked it up in the dictionary.

I thought it was just me . I was invited to a discord server by someone on Reddit because they were surprised how unevenly I did on tests. They had an acquaintance with a pirated copy of the WAIS . They wanted me to take it .

Well I was sent the verbal part and the 1st part was quite a lot of words you had to describe . That completely threw me. I'd have no problem using the words in sentences , but as for describing them , even though the verbal part is untimed, - eek!!

I went into major avoidant mode and left that server . I also closed my Reddit account because I didn't want to have to explain why I wasn't going to do that WAIS test .

Knowing how to use the words in context but struggling how to describe them is not something new for me .
It's really driven a Sherman tank through my somewhat fragile self confidence this time though . All I can think is how effing stupid I am .

Took a test once with a live shrink. Had trouble explaining what the word "consume" means. In exhasperation I said "I just have this visual of a thing, like an amoeba, devouring something". The shrink said.."would you say that it means 'to use up'?". To which I replied "yeah! Bingo!".

So I needed prompting, but he knew that I knew what it meant.

I once asked mom "who was this Jezebel lady in the Bible?". She replied "ewww… Jezebel! She was a real....she was a real...she was a real...JEZEBEL!! !".

But we all have moments like that. A Dominican guy I worked with asked what a certain word in American slang means. Cant remember what term it was now. But I ended up like mom saying "term X means ...means....means... TERM X!! !! !".

Same here: I can use and understand words within the structured context of sentences, but when they’re isolated I struggle to define any word that isn’t very basic vocabulary like owl or run.

Like the Jezebel example

Still at this age I do not know the meaning of Jezebel nor the bible reference...

But google tells me:
Definition of Jezebel.
1 : the Phoenician wife of Ahab who according to the account in I and II Kings pressed the cult of Baal on the Israelite kingdom but was finally killed in accordance with Elijah's prophecy.
2 often not capitalized : an impudent, shameless, or morally unrestrained woman.

Pressed the cult of Baal? What does that even mean. Baal means hair in Urdu by the way.
