Wondering if anyone else experiences this - I can't find any info on-line...
Every now and then I feel uncomfortable, kind of sick to my stomach. Then I sleep for approximately 20 hours or so, waking for two hours max to get a drink or something then crash again. Can't concentrate on tv or anything, I'll ignore everything. When I eventually come out of it I am totally symptom free! I don't understand this at all.
I don't feel overwhelmed at these times, or tired, but then again I am very out of touch with my feelings. Have I been so "on" that I shut down to recalibrate my brain?

Nope. I brought this up because it happened again on Tuesday. Lasted from Monday night until waking up Wed to get ready for work. Out of the blue. I was really worried I'd lose my new job (less than 2 weeks there - but I am enjoying it, I didn't think I was stressed.).

After sleeping maximum 1-3 hours a night for several months, I go to bed and sleep 24 to 36 hours. It also happens sometimes after long periods of intense stress. I need to do this once in a while to "reset".

Do you feel the sleep is restorative? Did you notice this happening after traumatic or highly taxing events?

I don't feel much different afterwards. A little groggy, drink lots of water, eat. Then it feels like it never happened.

Stress doesn't connect to my brain so much. Sometimes I get angry and have to figure out why afterwards, or I'll get sudden news and have to leave to process it. Logical, not very emotional (but can easily smile and laugh), think I was born with high bp so it obviously takes its toll on me.

That's why I was asking - it can take me a LONG time to register how stressed I feel, how much something upset me or that various stuff has been accumulating for a while. Sometimes the body reacts before my mind and shuts down or asks for a break.

It's a bit like not feeling pain - I don't get the normal warning signs in time and not realise when I push myself too hard or for too long.

That makes sense. I usually feel like an observer, not a participant. If I have a reaction it usually comes way later - not really reacting but coming to a realization. More like an aha moment.

I'm exactly the same way. Sometimes other people notice there's something bothering me way before I do :lol: Then I have to go through a whole self-analysis process to figure out what.

The bad thing is that you can get burned-out and realise it only when you're already in pretty bad shape, so it's a good idea to keep an eye on any patterns of behaviour that might point out there's a problem.

I remember watching a medical program about people who had a condition called Klein-Levin Syndrome (KLS), which caused prolonged bouts of sleeping. Also, there was some illness originating in Kazakhstan that caused similar symptoms.
