This Sunday is World Naked Gardening Day, except in New Zealand where it is celebrated in October.

I was going to post this in the gardening thread, but then I thought World Naked Gardening Day would be an excuse to ask people the name of a movie with naked gardening in it. This is not a porn flick, folks. It is a seriously weird movie, but seriously good too.

Does anyone know what this movie is?

I am hoping someone from Australia knows what it is. I am pretty sure it was made in Australia. The main plot concerns a family in the outback. The man is terribly depressed and unable to do anything. They have no money. The woman gardens naked.

A representative from the tax authority tracks them down, trying to collect money they don't have. He ends up staying with them, somewhat in love with the woman who is gardening naked.

There is also a teenaged daughter who buys a schooner and has it delivered to their home. She buys it with credit cards.

This is a weird movie, but I really liked it and can't find it anymore. I watched it last when I rented videos from Block Buster, so you know it has been a while.

There is a movie called Nude Gardening Day, filmed in Australia and released in 2013. There’s not much detail about it. I couldn’t copy the link, but Google will find it. Not sure if the time frame is right for you. Blockbuster has been gone from my area longer than that I think.

I checked the weather forecast here. It’s supposed to be 18 C and sunny, but I don’t believe it. Yesterday in the garden I was wearing a flannel shirt over a t-shirt and denims and was cold! Spring is very slow arriving in my part of the world this year. Aside from the cold preventing me from participating, I have a new neighbour. I don’t want to frighten him off yet! 8O

^Thanks, Anne.

The point of the movie wasn't the naked gardening, it was something more ineffable about, possibly, the human capacity to survive.

This movie was before, say, 2000. And I think much more before that.

Yeah could have been the 70s. Casual nudity in films that weren't intended as pornography was quite common then. And by that I don't mean the sort of "fan service" you saw in films like Caddyshack or Animal House, but just having a character who happens to be naked in one or more scenes. I checked out the 2013 film mentioned by AnneOleson on IMDb and that is most definitely soft porn, and apparently the young lady who performs in it was in a couple of other similar productions.

You know, this could be an example of something of which there are no extant copies, at least not that anybody could readily locate.

Thanks MaxE! I didn’t think to research that particular “actress” too deeply, but under a search for naked gardening videos or images one woman kept popping up!

It sounds like quite a convoluted story in the movie that you are thinking of blazingstar, but sometimes the weird ones are the most interesting (as is with people). I should ask my son, he is quite good at finding out-there sort of things. He gets his oddness from his Mum. :D

Thanks MaxE. How sad if it disappeared. One would think it was still referenced somewhere.

And the nudity was quite casual. It was in no way sexual. She just happened to garden naked. The scenes were short and there were only maybe two such scenes. Nothing really revealing as in sexy.

AnneOleson, it was a convoluted story and often times I didn't know what was going on. But it stayed interesting even when I wasn't sure. All the characters were odd. The most unexpected one was the tax collector who started out trying to get them to pay attention to the taxes and gradually came under the spell of the family. And despite all the depression and despair, it has an unexpected and happy ending.

You might find interesting the story as to how I was led to this movie. A friend, who I now suspect was aspie, gave me a paper list of movies he really recommended I see. I watched most of them before I lost the paper. All the movies were odd and interesting. I wish I still had that list. The friend has disappeared from my life and I don't know how to find him. He might even have passed away as he was not in very good health and was a good 10 years older than I.
