I just learned this is an aspie thing, from this video: Max Explains Aspergers Syndrome

I didn't know that, it's oddly specific. I have horrible childlike handwriting it's embarrassing, but it's not like I write that much, I type. I want to learn how to do calligraphy.

So many aspie characteristics are weirdly specific, like walking on your toes, etc.

Yep. My handwriting used to look like a six year-old wrote everything since I have fine motor skill issues. I've been working on it by making myself learn and practice cursive, and improving my handwriting has been really helpful overall. I honestly started doing it because I figured the motor skills aspect would help me play games better, which it has. lol

Yes, my handwriting is very bad. I have an NT brother who has worse handwriting than mine though. :)

I do have crappy handwriting, but eligible enough.

Not because I have fine motor issues -- it's the opposite of that. I'm just very impatient.
And there was a time when I never held a pen for few years.

It's less like a clumsy child's handwriting.
More like some gothic crossed with chicken scratch and rushed cursive.

Only and only if I slow down and be mindful of each strokes, then I'd get neater handwriting.
Except, it's painful and more straining in my case.

And sure. I do have a lot of weird movements.
But I have no motor issues to speak of. Not even general clumsiness.

I actually have neat, though often small, handwriting. Always in cursive, too, because all through elementary school, after we learned cursive in second grade, all the teachers insisted that we write in cursive, so now I’m much more familiar with cursive than print. Just another way I’m an outlier, I guess - I seem to have missed pretty much everything that isn’t specifically in the diagnostic criteria for autism

I can't be sure my bad hand writing is because of my autism, dyslexia, or that I am left handed and hold my pen as if it were in my right. Probably a little of everything.

Mine is fair to poor. Don’t do cursive, except to sign documents.

Yes , but because I am not as attentive at writing as I used to . I used to just sit in my room writing and drawing and only leave room for food . Draws are full of stacks of ancient scriptures that I wrote .

In my writings I used to write only in capital letter and go over each letter on a page three times to make it bold . It was my own way of expressing my words in writing .

My handwriting was so bad as a child that I was tested for developmental disabilities. They never found anything wrong, brushed it off and said I would grow out of it, which I did. My handwriting has improved over the years.

I was never diagnosed with Asperger’s since this was the late 80’s and not much was known about it. I remember the teacher being very confused because I couldn’t hold my pencil properly but could do fast math calculations in my head at 4 or 5 and had every dinosaur and planet memorized. Yup. Textbook Aspie as a child.

My handwriting starts off neat but after just a couple of sentences becomes a scrawly mess. I very quickly get a deeply unpleasant sensation in my arm when writing which makes me want to scream. I don't have the same problem when drawing. Maybe it's related to the repetitive nature of writing? At school I often used symbols to replace common words when taking notes as it made things a lot easier but I couldn't do that for writing essays and answering exam questions which made them very unpleasant experiences.

I usually have to stop and rest at least once each sentence these days, but that's probably mostly due to my medical issues. I used to write 3-4 pages at a time without stopping for more than a couple seconds while I found the right words.
