If I may hazard a guess: According to Wikipedia, "Asperges" is the practice of sprinkling a congregation with Holy Water. I'm no linguist, but I guess "Asperger" would thus be a name for a person that does this.

I think it could be name from plant Asperagas officinalis, in French and Dutch is word Asperge and it can also mean tall and slim person, like a model.
There is also Aspergillus, but I don't think it's sth connected - but this fungi likes water.
Dictionary tells me there is verb aspergere in Italian what comes from Latin aspergo and means moisture.
So maybeeee it means:
1. Tall and slim
2. Humidifier
3. Spraying water thing from Church
Thanks for those possible definitions but for the people who posted that AS was named after a guy named Asperger's... well, they need to learn how to read better.
