Hello!
My name is alex, I'm new here and I'm a 17 years old boy who have been recently with a consulor/psychologist to help me deal/diagnose my severe anxiety problems (My main problem, if you ask, is that I'm afraid that something (specifically a sound) may disrupt my thoughts, in which it creates a great deal of constant anxiety and stress, which I think is pretty unusual :? ).
He was pretty impressed with my intelligence and I'm suspicious that he thinks that I have aspenger´s, because he asked me if I like things in order and he also wanted me to do an IQ test. I am 100% sure that I dont have any autistic tendecies (no social problems, dont care if my scedule is disrupted, have a lot of friends, I dont care if my stuff are not aligned). Im just capable of thinking very deeply, which I guess is my personality. I dunno.
What do you think? :?:

Not all gifted people have ASD.

It seems to be common for gifted people to be a bit autistic, and it seems to be very common for autistic people to have anxiety issues.

So the combination anxiety + giftedness may have led your counselor to believe you might have ASD, so she checked that. I think that's fine, medical diagnostics is always based on probabilities.

That sounds like OCD.

I agree. He might want to do an IQ test because there are studies done on people with OCD and a lot of them have above average intelligence, but are very irrational. Sadly, I'm not one of the smarter people with OCD :D . I'm just irrational.

And I don't think I'm downright stupid.

Therefore....(fill in the blank) :D

Genius means genius.

Autistic means autistic.

There isn't all that much correlation between the two.

Why do you think you're not smart, Stampy? I think you're way above average. I mean, you're very young Most children your age wouldn't be able to write posts like this, they wouldn't have the knowledge you have and eloquence. You also seem to be very good at logical thinking and you never make any spelling mistakes (as far as I can tell, haha :D). And you absorb knowledge like a sponge.

So, seriously, why would you call yourself dumb?

I am one of those OCD people
I have known many autistics, almost everyone was an idiot. I met a few smart autistics in other classes. I admit it is my personal experience and opinion though. I think it could be the smarter autistcs could function better. I admit I am not the brightest though. Disclaimer be careful trusting my opinions on myself. I have severe depression and tend to beat myself up physically and mentally.

Thank you anti_gone. I try to always put myself more down than others because I have severe OCD as a result of a "delusion" (my psychologist says it wasn't a delusion) and inflated ego. I find I'm a better person in general for curbing this horrible trait I have (the huge ego  ). I am pretty idiotic, though- I got a D on my math final  .
