I deal with demanding people all day at work. By the end of the day, I am "peopled out." What do you do to
recharge and get ready for another day of NTs?

Video games and live sports on TV Tuesday, Thursday, and weekends, as well as WWE and AEW Monday, Wednesday and Fridays. One of my favorite things about pro wrestling as well as sports in general is that (at least before and hopefully after COVID) the travel-heavy nature of the business means you have a fairly good chance of meeting the performers when they come to town 8) I also enjoy listening to a ridiculously wide range of music and browsing historical stuff on Wikipedia.

Every day after work I used to lie on my back on my bed and listen to podcasts, and my cat would sit on my chest and I would pet her and after a couple of hours of that it was much better.

I used to live within a few minutes' cycle ride of my workplace, so I used to have lunch at home every day, and I was the sole occupant. I'd typically make a sandwich the night before, and just sit there in a comfy armchair eating it, drinking tea and smoking. I'd often make a bit of progress with a special interest if I had a good project going on. Luckily I had a whole hour for lunch, and was often able to stretch it a bit further still (I gather these days people are lucky if they get half an hour), and my hours were usually very regular with weekends and evenings all to myself unless I chose for myself to go into work for a little while to keep a bit of practical science on course. The boss was usually happy with all that as long as the work got done.

Anyway, I think that lunchtime break helped a lot. I don't suppose I had a very tough deal at work compared with what a lot of people have to put up with, as a lot of my colleagues were scientists who perhaps don't play stupid social games so much - if you're good at being objective it's also likely that you're not an obnoxious bigot, though it's not a cast-iron guarantee. Still, in spite of my relatively easy ride in the world of work, it used to drive me nuts, and many of the pressures were probably based on the gap between the AS and NT outlook and expectations.

Mostly to decompress I like to get away from everything except the things I feel a desire for, so I pamper myself with special interests, nice walks in the quiet countryside, and even being with other people as long as they're the right kind for me. Making music is always a good one, including messing about with computers and bits of electronics to record and engineer the music, as well as just picking up my guitar and running through a few songs to see how I'm doing and to keep in practice. I also used to get a lot out of playing computer games, though that was in the old days when it was all 2-dimensional stuff.

When I worked retail in 1980s and 90s before my physical health crashed in early 2000s I'd go home, unplug the telephone, and NOT turn on the radio.

TV was too hyper and chaotic for me so I had no TV.
Had no computer either.

I'd sit for a few minutes talking to and playing with my cat.
Then go take a shower to "wash off the retail"

Have a snack, or supper if it was that time.

The read, write, or glue or paint parts for models and miniatures.

No people, no chaos, no noise.
Refreshing!

Creating a quiet place with little if not no visual or auditory distractions.
Have a nap.

Hydrate yourself ideally with water.

In contrast, sometimes a few beers can help. Although i would not recommend this strategy every day, otherwise you will become an alcoholic.

Some people like smoking cigarettes, some people like smoking ganja.
Some like to take a low dose of valium.

Some drink green or chamomile tea.

Some like going to the gym as a good vigorous workout can boost their endorphins, help clear their mind,
and make them tired so they sleep well the same night. Keep hydrated.

Some may drink strong coffee to give them a boost, this however can result in insomnia and will lead to exhaustion in the long term.

One supplement that i have found is useful to some, is L-Theanine, which is the relaxant ingredient that is abstracted from green tea. non addictive, non tolerance bearing, OTC and fairly cheap.

Some like to go for an invigorating swim, or a relaxing walk near the beach or in a park.

Others like massage.

Some find computer games as a good way to wind down or let out your pent up aggression.

Punching punch bags also can help you get rid of any built up aggression.


some like body relaxation meditation - jon kabat zing does an excellent spoken word of a body scan meditation / relaxation therapy.
