I hate how creepiness is associated with autism
I don't get it...
People seem to think it's ok to say online stuff like 'that's creepy, are you on the spectrum' etc. To associate the word 'autistic' and the word 'creepy'.
I've experienced creeps. And the thing is - an autistic person couldn't get away with it.
They know how to manipulate. They can predict people's behaviour. They can seek out the vulnerable and work out our weaknesses. They're practiced liars.
On the other hand: autistic people - can't manipulate. Not even to 'normal' levels. Are good at patterns sure but don't understand body language enough to make 'normal' predictions. Are more likely to be vulnerable than hurt the vulnerable. Are too blunt to get away with anything...
I had an ex who was creepy. He claimed to be autistic but all his personality traits were the opposite of autistic. He was definitely allistic, idk if there was something going on there or not...
We don't even have the hive mind thing which is considered 'normal'. We don't say nonsense like 'only 10% of conversation is in words' (that kind of sentiment makes me squirm tbh... no wonder a 'yes means yes' movement is needed if guys/people in general think they can 'read body language'...).
I feel like people only say it cos autistic guys are more likely to be single (and society needs an excuse for that) and cos people fear that which is different - even if that which is different is also easily overpowered when it comes to social skills.
I hate it cos people will hear I'm autistic and think I'm creepy. At least I'm not a cis guy though - cis guys who are autistic must get that stigma even worse.

Was your ex diagnosed? Did his parents say anything about his diagnoses?
Autistic people can come off as creepy because of their lack of reading social cues and hints. They may unintentionally stalk a woman because they didn't get the hint she doesn't like him. so they keep asking her out, keep following her not even realizing she is trying to get away from him. I have heard about these sort of stories about people on the spectrum and it happened to Jerry Newport as well.

Yes, I know. I just saw that story today.
I don't stalk either. But I have never been called creepy--a lot of other nasty things, but not creepy.
But it is sad that difference can be taken so negatively. The "mentally disturbed" killer stereotypes in the media don't really help. But we are kind of built to default to negative impressions than assuming the best--less likely to get eaten by a predator.
Research has shown that people have a negative implicit bias against ASD. The difference and response just seems built in. And it sucks. While I love how my ASD lets me see the world, living with NTs is just exhausting.
I totally get how you feel.
At least most of us are free to subsequently associate the whole idea of creepiness with its' real causes & effects, instead of scapegoating...

This doesn't describe me. When I was younger I managed to convince my own mother that I was dating this guy even though I wasn't, just to look big I suppose.
I don't like it when Aspies on WP assume that I look creepy just because I'm on the spectrum. Not all Aspies look creepy, especially female Aspies. I know I don't look creepy, because people let their kids stand or run about near me in public, and I don't think people would let their kids near me if I looked like some sort of threat to the vulnerable.
I believe I actually look the opposite to creepy. I look stupid and get treated like my feelings aren't valid.

I do and I'm not a stalker.
People need to quit stereotyping autistic people like that. If someone's a stalker, likely they're either a bad person or there's more going on than autism.
That's what we get for ignoring biased sites like the neurotypical site. I believe that the more we appeal against these things, the more we will get our voices heard. That's what other minorities did, and now look: it is practically illegal to be homophobic or racist these days. We need to work harder, take action against biased public information and hopefully it will become illegal to be autism-phobic in the near future.

I would not have associated the word creepy with Autism.
I think that recently there was a member of wrong planet (who i think doesn't have autism, who is a b***h)
who decided to come on the forum to muck stir and throw muck at us. (some people really are sociopaths).
When it comes to autism, i would more likely associate the following words:
clueless
naive
child like
outsider
strange
"not quiet right"
weird
due to the various impairments that the conditions causes us especially with social interaction
i think reasonable people once they know what the disability is that we suffer from
they would realise that we are not creepy but disabled
fascists and other bullies who pretend not to be fascists (but who are in behaviour) may call us creepy
in their hate campaigns
that is because they are fascist bullies by nature and not worth wasting your time on
shamefully some humans still haven't got past using bullying as a way to succeed in material terms
but alas, every sadistic action darkens their soul until the day they die and get dragged off by the demons.
darkness goes to darkness light goes to light
no other way
"Creepy" is a relative word because a man wandering in the park by himself can be creepy or a man that decides to talk to a woman and strike up a conversation can also be creepy.
It's a matter of feeling the woman gets about a guy. They will mind as well admit they simply just don't like men and they have implicit bias about them.

So basically if I leave my house or make conversation, I'm a creep.
Bye then everybody...

This happened to me years ago.
I didn't get the hint and followed the woman I knew for years into an elevator. (A business connection).
Her expression made it perfectly clear that she was fuming.
All totally innocent, but NTs expect everyone to pick up the unspoken queues.
But I do know better now.
Well, I hope I do.
Another thing those on the spectrum might do is to stare.
That freaks out women also.
I have had to learn to consciously avert mine eyes.
And another thing is how some of us are too open and honest.
Allistics use that to confuse and deceive.
I had to stop doing that also.
When you think about it, some things we do innocently can be miscontrude as being creepy.

Give it a rest, FFS.
We all know who you are referring to.
Well, all the enlightened ones.
Personal attack, mate.
Bye then everybody...
I did not mean that, I mean women in general perceive creep in different ways.
