I've heard that being pedantic is an aspie thing.

Does anyone on here think that's true?

I've basically weaned myself off it but I still do it in my head and get annoyed by things. I weaned myself off for eg correcting people's spelling/punctuation/people who talk about the Specific Ocean because that might be due to their own needs, for eg dyslexic people find it hard to remember how to spell words right and some people find it hard to remember words due to cognitive reasons or not be a native English speaker. It is still important to me to know someone is trying their best though.

I also genuinely need clear language without errors or vagueness. Otherwise I get more confused than most ppl do. I have missed deadlines because of lecturers saying 'Thursday' rather than saying 'Thursday the 18th' (this was when I was younger but still as an adult). And when people give times the 'old fashioned way' it stresses me out, 'quarter to 8' sounds later to me than '7:45' sounds.

I feel like cos my language skills are mostly words based (I'm a good writer but struggle in social situations) and I'm bad at facial expressions/body language, I place a lot of importance on words. Perhaps more than most people do.

I can be finicky with language. I get distracted by incorrect language and have trouble moving past it. I really try not too piss people by constantly picking at their words, but if I do not then I cannot comprehend anything else that proceeds the error.

I also need absolutely clear language. If someone says the appointment is on Thursday then I must get clarification on the exact date too. I cannot understand why others don't require this, but I guess if they did I wouldn't always need to get clarification. I probably annoy people because of this  .

I used to be terribly pedantic with language. I believe I've gotten better.

I get frustrated when people can't spell, but I don't mean people with dyslexia or children or those who aren't native English speakers, or whatever. It's worse when someone is a good speller ordinarily but repeatedly spells a rather simple word wrong.

I think all good spellers get frustrated when we see bad spelling, just like good maths people probably get frustrated with me for not being able to do simple multiplications.

Personally I've grown to appreciate quirky spellings, accented spellings and spellings that are incorrect but better reflect how a word is pronounced. I believe I'd qualify as a good speller, so I can't agree that all good spellers feel that way.

I have a strong dislike for Valley Talk. I find it very distracting. I don't understand why people would want to talk like a bunch of snotty teenage girls.

I believe that the default interpretation on "see me Thursday" is "the first available Thursday." There's also "this Thursday" to confirm that or "next Thursday" for the second one available.

I love precise, economical language, but I find that it is seldom able to get another mind focussed the same way, because there are different pre-conceptions to overcome in each example.

^ Yes and I try to go with that assumption but I get stuck on thoughts like "what if they used it incorrectly" or "what if I misheard" of "what if my understanding is backwards" ( sometimes my brain flips things like this).

I like it best when it's through email or text so I can write out the day of the week, date, time + timezone + am/pm, and year. Overdoing it I know, but it reassures me.

Correcting people is not pedantry and seeking clarity is not pedantry.

Other people might view those things as pedantry (likely because they don't understand the reasons behind them), but it's your motivation that determines whether your behavior is pedantic, not others' perceptions.

If you need clear, precise, detailed information to understand, seeking such information is not pedantry.

Yes
What is Asperger's Syndrome? by Dr. Tony Attwood

Quote:
Unusual language abilities that include advanced vocabulary and syntax but delayed conversation skills, unusual prosody and a tendency to be pedantic.

When watching sports, I often miss the critical action, watching something else nearby. It can take a few replays, slowed down, for me to follow it well. I think that my concise, accurate phrasing is similarly too fast for most people. I get very frustrated when someone says two or even three things that seem to start off as novel thoughts but turn out to be alternate explanations of what I just learned, but this pace seems to be required to catch the average wandering mind.

Not sure what pedantic is but I have been accused of it a few times.

Being fussy about things in order to be correct so for eg 'there's a difference between its and it's'.

That is correct. There is a difference.

But most NTs don't like it being pointed out especially if they just got it wrong and especially in casual conversation.

My stepdad is more pedantic than me - he used to go into shops that got their apostrophes wrong and tell the person behind the counter...

Oh yes. I often do that and I don't mean it in a bad way but some people take it as I am criticizing them when I am not.

Sometimes we win. Recently I saw "a steady flow of cooling energy" and commented on it. The article now reads "a steady absorbtion of heat."
