I wasn't exactly sure how to title this but, say you used to be utterly obsessed with something and you took it too far. Talked about it too much or even spent way too much time on it.

For, me it's a couple of old TV Shows and a couple of bands, I was obsessed with in High School. At age 40 I absolutely cringe if I see and hear any of the mentioned things. I was in the car yesterday and on ch 33 new wave on Sirus-XM, a song came on and I could not change the station fast enough, I started blushing.

It's hard to describe but certain things can trigger awful flashbacks for me, my social **** up's and being made fun of. Anyone else have this problem?

No, I'm not ashamed of stuff I used to like. I went through periods of that when I was younger, but why would I be ashamed of liking New Wave or dinosaurs or (list goes here)?

Yes!

I've always had obsessions with people. When I was a teenager I had a crush on this guy I didn't even know hardly, and it became such a severe obsession that took over my whole life. I talked nonstop about him, and when I'd said everything I knew about him enough times, I started making up things about him so that I could continue to talk about him. How did I know so much about him, you ask? I stalked him. I wasn't intending any harm, but I did get myself into trouble and the police even got involved. I knew what I was doing, but I just couldn't stop myself. Luckily the police let me off lightly because my mum had explained to them that I was just a 14-year-old girl with a crush and that I had ASD.

To be honest, I was so happy when I grew out of that obsession at age 17. I wasn't really happy with the obsession. I mean I lost friends and failed classes in school because my mind was just too overrun by this unhealthy obsession. I wish I could go back and live my teenage school years without having the intense obsession.

I do feel so embarrassed about it. I was just a very stupid kid back then. I know it is normal for teenage girls to develop such crushes but mine went way too far.

I was obsessed with the penis between the ages 6 and 8. I used to talk about it a lot and I did things that are too embarrassing to mention. My mum told my sister and I to stop talking about the penis. It got to the point that I'd chant about girls going with a wipe-wipe and boys going with a tail. Tail was code for penis.

An "adult" topic that that would break WP rules if I mentioned it. The arrival of the internet meant I definitely spent way too much time on it. Don't worry it was not violent.

BTW I am listening to an internet New Wave station ATM because even today it is my favorite genre.

The Wiggles. I don't know why, but I swear I was the only black boy in the world who was obsessed with The Wiggles. I found all them to be so cute, (the original Wiggles; Greg, Jeff, Anthony and Murray.) I would watch the Wiggles all the time, and sing and dance to all the songs.

Yeah, I don't know what in the hell I was thinking, but yeah. lol.

I had a few interests that I look back on and cringe. I still will sometimes be reminded of my old social media pages based on those shows and book series as well as all the fanfiction and fanart I created and be ashamed. However, the worst things were the ones I pretended to like because I thought it would help me fit in with groups of girls I wanted to like me. I think back on those times (mostly junior high and high school) and feel embarrassed and a bit mad at myself for faking liking things I genuinely didn't care about.

From the age of 11 I did karate and became obsessed with doing karate, that by the time i was 14, i was training 7 days a week.

A lot of the time, my topics to talk about was karate.
Which was perhaps fairly odd for the kids i grew up with.

As we grew older, i was quiet happily being a loner, doing karate every day, instead
of hanging out with the kids my age who were delinquents, who got into bad habits of
stealing alcohol from their folks, so they could get drunk, smoking cigarettes, shoplifting,
bullying other kids etc.

I am thankful that i didn't get involved in that, (although, i caught up on the hedonism sides of things later on).
I am thankful that i wasn't involved in stealing, lying , smoking, shoplifting, bullying etc.

Sometimes having ASD saves us from ourselves.
Even if it did make me a karate weirdo.
At least karate has some purpose and perhaps very useful for someone with ASD, who
tend to be more prone to being bullied.

I'm not embarrassed by them, mostly because they weren't that unusual. At the time I got a lot of crap for it though. Maybe the only one that is still around are the late albums by Phil Collins. To some that might be embarrassing, but if I thought style of music was a relevant measure of a person's character, I'd be more embarrassed by such thinking itself.

Around the time I turned 30 I was tired of being controlled by my interests, and set out to gain control over what I was interested in, for how long, and how much. Ended up cutting out most of what I was doing at the time, which was very healthy and improved my life a lot. Nowadays, my main interest is to have my everyday life go about as it should, despite all the challenges. Although going to work everyday would probably not interest the 10-year-old me as much as extraterrestrial archaeology, I'm better off now.

I used to be obsessed with shopping malls and stores in general between the ages of 9 and 13. I used to memorise stores and shopping malls in my local phone book and I also used to visit malls that were miles away from where I lived. I wish that I had spent those years visiting places like castles and museums instead as I think that would have been much more useful for my development back then. I've made up for it in recent years though thanks to regular day trips to places of historical and cultural interest and I look forward to doing those trips again once the pandemic is over.

I was obsessed with a man who was in my work experience college programme. He was a very nice person at first and than the May of the following year, his nasty stripes were showing. That put an end to that obsession. I kept trying to convince myself that I wasn't anything like that man, for years.

A lot of garbage: Pokemon, videogames, porn, search the internet for nosense, etc, thousands of hours wasted in garbage. I learned to focus my natural curiosity on good and useful things. And I changed my life for the better.
