Hope the poll is ok.
Hope this is a good thread.
Any criticism of the poll is welcome.
Were any of you Aspies or Auties accused of lacking common sense? I was. I voted the first option in the poll.
Of those who were accused of lacking common sense, which of you read a lot of comics or fiction as a child?
I ask because I learnt to read at 2, was highly intelligent but gave up reading at that age and lost my intelligence as I went though school and I am trying to find out if reading fiction helps with common sense.
That is to say of the AS people on here who did read fiction/comics, were you still accused of lacking common sense?
Thank you.

No one really told me I lacked common sense, and I used to read mainly fiction as a child (adventure-type books).

Thank you, this may indicate that giving up fiction prevented me from developing common sense.
Examples of my lack of common sense were not seeing jobs that obviously needed doing.
Obvious things not occurring to me.
Embarking on an unsuitable career (nursing), as my mother thought I would make a good nurse, I didn't actually have a desire to be one, just thought it would be a good career, as I had got sacked from office jobs and performed poorly at shop work, and missing out important aspects of the work (Eventually got sacked)
Making silly mistakes despite being told I was highly intelligent.

I actually don't think I necessarily got common sense from reading fiction. No one told me I lacked it, but I'd personally say for most of my childhood I did, and then when I went on the internet and learned a lot more actual facts and read more non-fiction I gained a better understanding of things. There could still be people who learn this from fiction though, I'm just a single autist giving their experience with that. lol

I read comics, but didn't like fiction, as a kid. I developed a liking for fiction upon becoming an adolescent.

I am still told that I "lack common sense." I'm 60 years old now.

I think you shouldn't be too worried about not picking up common sense as many NTs also take a while.

Again learn from experience and file the events away

Mostly Archie and his gang. I liked the TV show, too.

Archie Andrews. Betty. Veronica. Reggie.

They supposedly did the song “Sugar Sugar” in 1969. Number One for a long time.

It was actually done by studio musicians.

I've been told many times in my life that I lack common sense. I still lack common sense.

ron dante was the fellow's name. he was the all-purpose vocal talent on lots of anonymous bubblegum music. he was the frontman also for "the detergents" with their parody, "leader of the laundromat."
