Antidepressant Withdrawals, struggling please help :'(
Hello everyone!
I have just stopped a antidepressant drug called TRAZODONE about 10 days ago. I was on a high dose of 300mg for around five weeks
I had to stop due to lots of nasty side effects such as dehabilitating migraines, blurred vision
complete exhaustion, apathy and the worst being anaphylaxis and hives. With no subtle improvement on my depression at all. In fact possibly made it worse!
Like many other autistics I have never found any medication that helps to alleviate my depression or anxiety even slightly
With my doctors advice I stopped immediately cold turkey due to the anaphylaxis. This is not usually done due to withdrawal effects even at 5 weeks and its usually tapered.
For the past 10 days I have fallen into the worst depressive hole
I keep having nasty mood swings and aggressive screamy crying meltdowns from out of nowhere, eg sensory triggered by too much noise. I'm in bed all day, I cry sporadically and have no motivation at all.Eating Food, dressing and washing Is a struggle. Thankfully I have my wonderful husband to support me.
I feel so much worse than before I started these tablets!
Has anyone else experienced medical dependence and withdrawal? Does it last long? How did you cope?- any techniques to help alleviate the symptoms?
My psych has been on hol since weds so nobody has been able to give me any professional guidance. I'm desperate
Just hoping some of you fellow asd'ers may be able to help me out
Happy Sunday
Grace
Nice advertisement for big pharma. The cure is often worse than the disease. I would start by cutting out junk food (sugar dairy wheat) and seeing from there if emotional disturbances persist.

I am currently withdrawing from Citalopram, having decided to stop taking it a few weeks ago. The withdrawal effects are unpleasant, but tolerable. Of course I am able to take a tablet every few days to alleviate the effects. You won't if you are allergic to the medication.
I was on Venlafaxine a few years ago and I tried to stop taking that. The withdrawal effects from that were far worse than the Citalopram. I also noticed a significant worsening of the anxiety/mood back then, which hasn't happened (as much) with the Citalopram withdrawal.
I think it is safe to say that it depends a lot on the particular medication. Is it possible that you could try a different medication? Even if you don't take it regularly/long term, it may help you to deal with the withdrawal effects.
The only real advice I can give to deal with the withdrawal effects is to put up with it. That's probably not the kind of thing you want to hear, but I'm not sure there's much else you can do.
