Confusing Skill Cutoff

There's something that's been frustrating me for years, but I recently learned it may be a symptom of Autism! The problem is, my skill set has sharp cutoffs -- I may be a whiz at one thing, but something else people see as very similar I just can't do. For example, I am quite proficient at procedural-oriented programming, but as soon as I try to learn object-oriented programming my brain just shuts off. I had no idea WHY I couldn't wrap my head around it, and it's particularly frustrating because something I really want to do is make mods for Minecraft, which is coded in Java and uses TONS of class objects.

To be clear, I'm not just venting here! Advice is welcome~

I have been working on a hypothesis that every genius has at least one really stupid idea, and it has held up for years. Whenever I tried to talk to my bookeeper, we seemed to have opposite ideas of some basic definitions, so to me it was like trying to make sense of a map with the compass directions reversed. I had to unlearn what I thought I knew to get started.
