Have you found something to cure your depression?

Depression is different between everyone. Some people find a hobby or activity that brings back life into purpose and reason.

What are you doing that keeps you away from that dark place? Have you stumbled upon something in particular, changed professions, started hiking, making electronic music etc... How do you cope with it?

Yes, a plastic bag and a large nitrogen tank. It'll cure my depression, but it'll cure everything else as well. :|

Listening to music and journaling pulled me through most of my serious depressive episodes. The one helped me to feel emotions and the other helped me to express them in ways I couldn't by speaking.

The paleo diet, it is most excellent for balancing out mood, especially the keto version based on healthy fats such as Omega 3 and monounsaturates.

Stay away from too much processed food and sugar, it tends to cause mood swings.

Doing things for other people. Just random nice acts. People respond well to it and you feel better about yourself.

I haven't been depressed for around 35 years.
I'm not 100% sure why, but it might have had something to do with work and working towards financial security.
I gave up having/finding a significant other in my early thirties, so I didn't have that on my mind.

When im depressed and awake . I attempt to learn the physics of reality and the way human brain perceives stimuli.

Made some interesting discoveries about what we perceive as ‘tonal harmony’.

I used to have depressive episodes. Not anymore. I can control my general mood now .
A depressive episode being a period of time where your entire consciousness is in a low...negative place.

Are there certain phrases you keep telling yourself...or train of thought that is describing a negative situation, one where you are the victim all the time, or playing back a negative event?

I noticed, once i can identify my negative thought pattern (its preferred neural pathway) ...i started to catch myself talking BS about myself, or fixating on very short moments in time that were traumatizing...when i catch myself, i just correct the negative self image or if i cant change it, (like the actions of others or the world), i just acknowledge that it happened. And dont fixate on the negatives. Just acknowledging that a bad experience occurred can help the rest of the mind move on.

I hope this technique works for you .
Remember, its your body and your mind, you're in charge .

Partaking in my interests helps, if I can muster enough energy/motivation to do so. Looking up things about Syrian hamsters the past few days has oddly been helpful, because rodents are one of my interests.

It isn't "cured" but it is fairly dormant now. When I hit bottom, I cleared a little space in my workshop and made small art from metal, the job I'd most enjoyed. The polishing is like bringing it to life.
I have also improved my diet, replaced my former activity with deliberate "waste" exercise, and worked a lot to improve my sleep. Getting involved with something that needs doing is probably best overall, if there's enough human contact for encouragement, but not too much for overload.
