Hi guys! My name's Sam. I am pretty sure I have Asperger's, and I also believe I have ADHD, social anxiety, and very often depression. Let me explain my situation.

At school my friends are very limited, I have about 5 friends. On a daily basis I feel like I'm a minor friend to them. I never hang out with them anywhere at school. It gets me so depressed that I often think about killing myself right then. It's like no one cares and maybe they might if I'm gone. I tried taking a handful of Tylenol once to see if it'd kill me. Lol it didn't, just made me very ill. Most of the things about my friends that make me depressed are usually very small things, like in the middle of a conversation they go off and talk to another friend of theirs that walk by. I normally can not find many good things to talk about because I'm worried about what they might think, although my mind is full of things to say. When speaking in public I worry about what people might think. I can't talk to more than two people at once without my voice getting shaky. I normally freeze up and forget what I'm about to say. This happens a lot when talking to people I know - even some family members. I get so nervous and anxious around people that I can never convey what I want to. At work I have to get other people to page for me because I just cant do it. My interests are also very limited. I mainly just like computers (programming, design, and communication) and I also will watch TV, movies, and play video games.

During school I try my hardest to stay on topic, but I always veer away from what the teacher is saying in my mind. I always end up in a different world thinking about what I'm going to do on my web design project, what I need to buy, etc. after I get home. The subjects are interesting to me. But I can't pay attention and I'm failing.

Where can I go to to get a diagnosis and get treatment for these symptoms? Does anyone know if Peninsula Outpatient Centers provide Asperger's testing? I need help badly and don't know where to go. I live in Maryville, TN.

Outside of failing on interesting subjects, and the quivering voice when talking to more than 2 people, that sounds a bit like me. You might have AS or HFA. Still, in either case, watching the symptoms, and reacting accordingly may be more help than anything else. Forget the claim about cures, etc...

What's HFA? Also where can I go to get tested? Does anyone know if Peninsula Outpatient does this?

HFA=high functioning autism,it is not an official diagnosis,it's autism or autistic disorder-but some specialists might add on the high functioning title-depends on who it is,it is also widely used by the autistic community,it's just a description of the persons' functioning level,eg,those at the high functioning end are very able, can read, write, speak etc.
if had a "significant" speech delay [ask parents about this],that means the person cannot be diagnosed with aspergers so would possibly either get PDDNOS or Autism as a label depending on whether it is ASD or not.

also, some specialists see aspergers and high functioning autism as the same thing, they diagnose them both as the same and do not believe in the language delay as being a difference.

not sure on how to get an assessment in America.

A therapist can diagnose you, and I'd look for one that specializes in Autistic Disorders.
