Question about weighted blankets?
Does anybody here use or know a lot about weighted blankets? I'm getting one soon, and its going to be i think 12 or 13lbs, but somebody told me that i would probably need more weight considering im an adult or it won't work as good. I can withstand up to tons of weight on me and still be happy. I'm only 99lbs, so do you think I should just get the 12 or 13lb blanket, see how it works or go email the lady and get a 15-20lb blanket instead

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

I haven't ever heard anything about weighted blankets.
If it was me I would purchase the heavier one. You already said you can stand tons of weight, but can you stand 'almost' the right weight blanket, or would you regret the buy?
Then again, you could get both and have a back up for extra pressure-feet or stomach or *?

i'm 5'4" and about 118 lbs. I have a 17 lb weighted blanked (full bed size) and i wish it were heavier. I sometimes wish it were the weight of a person! I would go for 20lbs if you know you like a lot of weight. The only downside that I can see to getting a heavier one is that its super difficult to move around! I keep mine on my bed but sometimes carry it down to the couch or on vacation in the car. It is very awkward to carry. Where are you ordering yours from? I ordered mine from www.weightedblanket.net and i love it. They have a horrible website but make awesome blankets. It will be so exciting when it comes! I love mine!
I didn't even know weighted blankets existed. I've always made do with one or two folded atop my legs (on top of the usual blankets), and when the cat nuzzles down on them as well, so much the better! I'd like a small weighted blanket, just big enough for me, something portable. Do they have something like that? It sounds...blissful.

Are there any regular stores (as in, not online) where you can get these?
I could use a lighter one...
Hey thanks for the great advise, my bf says the heavier one would be better as well. I ordered mine from dreamcatchers off of weightedblankets.net, and Eileen is so very helpful, hope it comes out good!
Yes they even have weighted lap pads, or vests!
I could use a lighter one...
Yea i know they make light ones as well, as far as selling it in stores, never heard of that ever, unless u live in montana close to where that lady lives haha, other then that weightedblankets.net is the way to go!

i wish i had one PERIOD...
That has two different meanings,am was thinking of the PMT type version.............then realised it also has another meaning.
Age,
if feel very good with a lot of weight, get the heaviest,or maybe even start with a lighter one,see how it is,and if prefer heavier, get another one and use them together.
Am going to be asking sister if she would like to make weighted blankets for selling them in UK as she's got the machine to do it,a WPer made a thread on making them a while ago.
Am choose not to buy one,and use a huge extremely heavy rug for pressure.
Age,
Once get the blanket,
am recommend inviting all the local cats in [pack of prawns or raw meat will do it,at least this is what got Biscuit,Goldie,Justin and Fluffybum in] get them to lie on self/top of blanket-extra pressure, plus the tactileness of stroking them/nose rubs etc is a bonus.

Thanks for the advise, i'm probably going to get the heavier one, after what everybody says, and i'll prob do better with more weight. As for the cats hehe, my two cats are my weight now as well, my one though is a peanut, shes like a dwarf compared to normal size cats, but even her little body helps haha, my other cat is obese, so thats always a plus when she lays on me lol.

Obese cats are natures own weighted rugs, they can fart in face as well unlike the other rugs.

Well, I've been reading like mad on weighted blankets, and it seems you need an 11 pound blanket, as per occupational therapy guidelines. They say 10% of your body weight plus one pound. They advise that if you prefer more weight, then you may want to go up a couple of pounds.
I think what I'm going to do is experiment with different things and see what feels best, for a rough idea, before I order. But I'm definitely going to get one! I'm glad you started this thread
The only thing that bugs me is how much it costs. SI items are pricey!

really ticks me off how they over inflate the prices on medical equipment... SI items collectively inserted into the durable medical equipment category with powerchairs... even for the highest end of powerchairs it still should not be $25,000 for the powerchair... lucky the insurance is picking that up...
