Jusst wanted to start a thread on Hurricane Dennis for all you Southern folks. I myself am a Memphian, but it's coming straight for Shelby County anyway so it should be fun.

Total list of watches and warnings for the mid-south per Dennis' arrival:

    Inland Tropical Storm Watch
    Flood Watch
    High Wind Advisory
Something else that i can't remember

So what do you think?

I hope you remember to let some chickens into the hurricane to see if they land on a bicycle and start riding it.
But seriously: stay safe. Make sure as many people as possible can hide in your home unless you do not have the facilities and they have anyway. Nevermind. Just stay safe.

I think there are Tornado Watches and Warnings too as Hurricanes tend to sprout those things.

Stay safe

There's talk that with the current weather pattern set up here in the US, the remnants of dennis will head up through the midwest bringing flooding rains with it.

I remember back in 1988 when hurricane gilbert moved up through the upper midwest, it rained for two days straight.

Luckily during the time that I've lived in the South, I've never experienced a hurricane. Sure, it would rain heavily, and we might have gotten a little bit of a breeze, but luckily that was it. Maine on the other hand was differant, and I experienced two of them there. ( Gloria in 1985 and Bob in 1991) I hope everybody that's in the path manages to get out of the way, and that they and their belongings are safe.

--And mentioning Hurricane Bob reminds me... I need to refresh the 'You Might be an Aspie if..." thread

Chickens? Wasn't it the Wicked Witch of the West?, and that was a tornado.

Dear god, I never knew that. As if a hurricane or tornado alone isn't bad enough.

I hope you'll be ok. I read somewhere about a guy that went and skateboarded in a hurricane once. When is it due to hit and where? Where do you live?

We get the reminents of cyclones in NZ, usually.

Hurricane Dennis made landfall at 2:25 PM CDT today, Sunday, with the eye coming ashore near Pensacola, Florida. The effects of the hurricane are being felt across the entire state of Alabama right now, as well as portions of Mississippi, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee (it's THAT big a storm!). Fortunately for those in the path of the storm, the winds are dying down and the hurricane has been downgraded to a tropical storm, although the heavy rains and threat of tornadoes remains. So stay tuned to the Weather Channel, or check out www.weather.com to keep informed!

Jim Cantore is the coolest. Though I think Stephanie Abhrams can be annyoing when she is out in the storm. Anyhow in north Alabama, we got a lot of rain and some wind. Nothing too bad.

By the time Dennis reached St. Louis, Missouri, it was just a tropical depression. Well, technically, the center of low pressure was far from St. Louis, but we got some of the outer rain bands.
