Under care of social services?

I was officially diagnosed with Aspergers in 1997.

My mom told me tonight since I was a child that although I have always lived at home with my parents that behind the scenes I have always been under the care of social services.

Is that quite standard for people with AS to be under the care of social services?. My mom warned me recently that if I start doing drugs with my friends that I will be put into care

I think some of the terms in your post are deliberately left vague (terms your mother used, I mean) such as "in care."

It is not usual that an autistic person living with parents is in care of social services (in the US), although the autistic person may be receiving some government income if they cannot work. But that's not the same as being in care.

There is an easy solution to your parent's insistence that you not do drugs with your friends: Don't do drugs with your friends! It's a reasonable expectation on their part. If you do drugs anyway, your parents don't have to live with that in their house. They can pass you on to whatever arrangements may be made for you by the government.

Sometimes it's better not to live with your parents as an adult, and sometimes it's better to stay with them. It all depends on your own strengths, weaknesses, and wishes.

I was diagnosed with ASD when I was 13.

When my specialist told me, I had no idea what my specialist because I had other stuff on my mind.

Back in 2017, VR & DD Services began helping me find work and a place that I can call home.

I used to have a family support worker up until I was 18, then I suddenly wasn't qualified for any support any more, even adult services. Basically the family support worker was there to help my family (mostly my mother) cope with my behaviour. Maybe adult support services don't cater for people with emotional behaviour issues. I don't know.

I wouldn't start turning to drugs if I were you, you might become society's dregs and you don't want that.

I see the results of people getting addicted to drugs and alcohol every day.

Those are the people that have to go to the bathroom in the street.

I'am not under social services but my wife is a great stand in.She helps keep everything on the level being older can get in trouble.

I'm in the UK too. I've only ever heard of social services being involved where a child is at risk or if there are exceptional circumstances. I don't know though.

Is there any reason why your mother should threaten you in this way.

IMHO social services will do their level best to keep families together as it costs quite a lot of money to keep a child in local authority care and those places aren't the best for a young person with or without autism anyway.

Is taking drugs something that your friends do. Is it something that your parents suspect you of doing?

just btw taking drugs and having those people for associates can become a road block
towards a human becoming a fully functioning person . in society or otherwise in their own lives.
i fought some of these own issues growing up ... within myself my urge to have friends vs having a real life.( Friends that made their live around drug abuse) Only after i got away from those people activities did my life get on track for better , more quality things . And later on made much better quality of friends . But perhaps your life is different .

Sometimes it’s because of older siblings, I know of an autistic boy who’s on social services radar with regular visits because his older aspie more functioning brother with autism is violent to him.

All are under 16.

That's where my wife comes in very protective of me.

Sorry I was replying to this as if you were a child or teenager. I just saw that you are in fact an adult.

I really don't know why you would be being treated as a child if you are 32 years of age.

Sorry thought you was alot younger than 32. Its probably because your classed as a vulnerable adult.

Social services deal with all vulnerable people not just children. The disabled & elderly if in adults they are unable to live independently.

Maybe your mum also had a hardtime when you was growing up & asked for help, which is not unusual for many parents of autistic kids, who may be destructive or require greater energy to look after, so both you & your mum came to their attention back then & your case just got moved to adult care.
