I was talking to my husbands uncle on the phone, who is my age, and all of a sudden there was this uncomfortable silence. So I blurted out matter of factly "My dog has fleas." He paused and asked "Your dog has fleas???" and I said "Um, yeah." We were been talking about his daughters upcoming birthday party and while talking to him, I had been looking at my dog scratching.

Why oh why do I do that? LOL

What are we talking about sub-clinical tourettes or ADD/ADHD? Because it would not be odd for me to say something out of left field like that.

My most embarrassing of those kinds of moments was when I was at the eye doctor's, kind of idly listening to a conversation across the hall. I wasn't trying to listen, but I couldn't help hearing it. Anyway, they were talking about dogs, and all of a sudden, I said to my eye doctor, "Speaking of dogs...blah blah blah." She really looked surprised, but I didn't figure out why until later. First of all, we hadn't been talking about dogs. Second of all, she probably couldn't hear the conversation I had been listening to, because it was really quiet. So I was worried that she would think I was schizophrenic or something, and the "voices" were talking about dogs!

It's common here (my house) to start talking about something unrelated to the ongoing conversation and based on something you see or remember. It looks like a distraction but it's really more like a displaced priority. We're less able to filter out visual or audio stuff as "trivial" or "unrelated".

I once answered the phone while I was in the middle of doing a calculation and instead of saying 'Hello' I said 'Equals'

I gave a bank teller my deposit and said, "Submit." I forgot she is not the ATM. I know I've said that to others too, inadvertently. Or "Comply." I once said "Comply" during a sexually intimate moment too.

I have no idea what it is. I am severely ADHD and I think blurting things out before giving it enough thought is hallmark for ADHD. It's the whole impulsiveness thing.

Thanks for responding you all, now I don't feel so alone. I like it when you laugh with me : )

There have been quite a few times I have talked to a friend on the phone about something one of my cats was doing.
