I got my diagnosis today. They said I scored high points on the assessments. The downside is they said I still have Asperger's ( ) but I can just ignore that s**t and focus more on what I identify better with, which is ADHD and anxiety. They did say it seems my ADHD and anxiety outweigh my Asperger's traits, so I could put Asperger's down to secondary traits, I don't know.

But anyway, at least I know I definitely have ADHD. And I'm not lying here this time - you can ask IsabellaLinton if you like, I've been telling her how nervous I've been of getting assessed and she's been supporting me. So now I can be more mindful about my difficulties instead of getting angry and in denial about it.

What is the treatment?

Thanks, I'm not sure how I'll celebrate yet. 8)

They're going to decide on which medication I can take, and also have some therapy for my anxiety and help with self-acceptance. It'll be nice to learn not to beat myself up every time I make a social mistake.

Very good.

After coming terms to such (probably easier in your current circumstance), start from there. See your daily living through that.

If you can afford them, ask for treatment. It's possible to start in middle age.
ADHD is one of the most treatable of conditions, neurobiology wise.

This means, possible change of meds made for ADHD for better or for worse.
Side effects are common, but there are already numerous resources for that.

Unlike Aspergers, whose treatments are mainly through secondary, indirect or just symptom trait wise -- rarely ever attaining system wide.
And autism is system wide.

ADHD also has the near same secondary issues though -- sometimes this is how one mistakes from another.

List and see to that.
There are many resources for co-occuring ADHD and AS, usually also involving additional learning disabilities.

This also means, focus on executive functions (which is directly ADHD) instead of just socialization (which emphasized in autism).

In most cases, better socialization will follow as executive functions get better.

Regardless, congratulations.

I'm so happy for you! It's a wonderful day when you are able to confirm something you know about yourself!
It's probably been a long journey, so you should get or do something for yourself to celebrate. :D

My bride is ADHD so I looked up the ADHD Awareness Ribbon color. It is Orange. From observing my bride I suspect they may have picked Orange to warn the rest of us!
Please be gentle with those of us who cannot keep up.

Are you straight-up ADHD or the combined type ADD/ADHD?

I'm combined. One more than the other (I suddenly forget which?) but both clinical.

I hope the treatment works!

My cousin was diagnosed and said her meds just made her feel so different (positively). ADHD can explain lots of the stuff that stresses you out too. I'm very excited for you :)

Congratulations. I hope this validating diagnosis boosts your self esteem going forward. As far as the Aspergers diagnosis goes I hope that the fact that both that it is not a diagnoses you received years ago as a child and that it is a co morbid/secondary condition to your ADHD makes you more accepting of it.

Sounds like you're feeling that the shoe fits better. The problem was not that they gave you a diagnosis back when, but that they gave you an imperfect diagnosis. And that this new one fits better. Now you can move forward, and "walk" better so to speak.

Congratulations!! ! Kudos to you for sticking with it!

I'm glad you have the ADHD diagnosis you can relate to better (and I am glad you are still part of our ASD tribe although I know that's unsettling for you).

My 1st (incorrect) DX was Bipolar II, my 2nd (more correct) DX was ASD (and GAD along with learning verbal disabilities relative to my non-verbal abilities), and now I am thinking ADHD also. Maybe one day I'll be up for a 3rd eval. Ha!

Happily: What will this new diagnosis bring you?

self knowledge is the key to being able to find adjustments and accommodations we can use to make our lives better. Hope you are able to use your diagnosis to make your life better. Best wishes
