It has been said, "it can take years to build a reputation, and seconds to lose it".

If the people you deal with frequently remember your outbursts, you might be able to make comments like;

"You may remember my anger issues, well I am trying to reign them in."
"This is something that would have made me angry before."
"I need to take a walk for a few minutes to manage potential anger."

If people can recognize your struggle, they can be sympathetic and may even try to help.

Just try to come up with different, more mild words, and don’t shout.

I like what timf said. You can't make people forget, but you might be able to convince them you have grown past that kind of thing.

I certainly don’t forget my bullying—but Ive taken some steps with an eye towards preventing bullying in the future.

By and large, with a few exceptions, Ive succeeded.

I suppose it might help to apologize, as long as you don't go and do it again. I don't know why people get so upset by words, but it's clear that they do. It seems to depend a lot on the local culture though. I've known some people insult each other quite viciously without it affecting their relationships. I've also known some people get mortified by a fairly trivial insensitive comment.
