(This is not a spin-off from "poopylungstuffing's" thread. Just an issue I've been having.)

Here's the deal. A couple years ago and before I would walk very stiff, and people would call me ret*d. But my parents would tell me to loosen up, swing my arms and stuff. After a while it was working great. I feel a lot more loose when I walk. But my parents say I still walk funny. They say I am doing exactly what they told me and I've got that down, but I still walk strange and they can't explain how I do.

Now it gets to where I am afraid to walk in front of any one, cuz I can feel it when I walk. I even have a terrible time turning around corners.

What about you guys?

I walk on my toes half the time..also I have a sorta nervous gait...and I am never sure what to do with my hands...(and I look up)..So putting all these factors together, yeah I walk funny.

When aspies aren't walking stiffly or walking on the balls of their feet, they tend to bob or swing, like as if they were doing the can-can or a jig...

I walk "funny" too. People have often commented on the fact that I don't swing my arms. I would find that quite frightening, so I have been told that I appear stiff. I usually wrap my arms around my tummy, because I have no idea what to do with them, but then people tell me it looks like I am unwell. I have to carry something fairly large or heavy [usually a bag] in order to feel that I won't fall over, and I cannot stop myself staring at the ground, so I often bump into things.

You guys are funny.

I walk as if no one around me exists, often walking in front of people and cutting them off.

I have a bit of an awkward gait, but it is mainly from tearing up my knees during sports, not from AS.

I've been told that I do this as well. I'm never aware of people around me, to the extent that I'm not even aware of my own lack of awareness unless someone specifically points it out to me.

I am like that too, but at times I am hyper aware of the people/things around me, which can get fairly intense.

I don't move my arms when I walk.

I don't care what people think of me....

I do this too. I don't know how to control it.

My thighs are very close together while my calves and my feet are miles apart, and I have a pretty stiff walk (some random NTA muttered that I look like I have to poo), and I tend to swagger my hips (not deliberately) when I walk in tight spaces. I have to concentrate in order to not walk on my toes.

I usually walk with small strides. Only person I can compare it to is Meg Ryan.

My arms don't feel natural to me. I've always felt awkward with them dangling at my sides. They feel too long and too floppy. I try to hold onto my purse, or cross my arms over my chest or put my hands in pockets if I have them..

I'm very clumsy. I often bump into walls and corners and trip over things. Oh and I stub my toes now and then.

But when I'm walking in front of people, I try to walk with an air of confidence.

no, except I used to always look down at what I was stepping on, especially when on tiles... I still do that sometimes, but not as much... it isnt odd gait though, but it probably can qualify as "walking funny"

Sometimes I put my hood up and walk really fast through the halls in my university and I will bump into people if they are in my way, and if they are it is usually because they are standing, literally, in the way of a moving path, and that is illogical so I run into them.

One time I put my hood up and walked really fast around campus, then security stopped me and asked me for my ID because they thought I was some hoodlum who didn't go to the school and was there to cause trouble.

I showed them, MY STUDENT ID!

When I was younger I didn't swing my arms. That changed later but walking in public
never comes naturally to me.I always feel like I'm going too fast but recently
someone said 'You walk quite slowly, don't you?" and now I'm even more self-
conscious about it :?
