What other diagnosis did you get before Asperger's?

From what I have read (and experienced), a diagnosis of Asperger's generally comes after other possibilities have been diagnosed. For example, I have been treated for ADD/ADHD (now considered the same disorder?) and depression since I was 6. Also social anxiety, but I never remember being nervous about being around people until about 2 years ago. I was more afraid of just not being at home, or doing something I didn't want to do. This was in 1988, before Asperger's was an official diagnosis. We assumed my inability to get along with other kids was just a wacky trait of my personality, and not a "symptom" to my overall condition. Until the past year, Asperger's was never a blip on my radar. Ironically, my mother read about it about 4 years ago and thought that it was a good fit, but we never looked into it.

So what other diagnoses have people here been given other than Asperger's? Did the treatments for those work, or would a diagnosis of Asperger's have changed the way you were treated? A new friend of mine told me she was diagnosed with OCD and ADHD, and she now believes she has Asperger's and not the other "conditions" after I taught her about Asperger's. She is 28, and was diagnosed back in the 80s as well. I am rather certain that most of us have probably been treated for other "conditions" before Asperger's, and I want to hear about other peoples experiences.

Twenty five years with a varying diagnosis of a range of depressive illnesses.

Finally "Atypical Monopolar". "Anhedonia" also got a mention.

Taht's not to say that was a wrong diagnosis, but it just didn't get to the core of the issue. No wonder it proved resistant to treatment

The depression improved following the diagnosis of AS, as I got a better understanding of this mad jigsaw called life.

I was diagnosed (or misdiagnosed, to be exact) with ADD. I think my teachers at the time were the ones who started the whole diagnosis idea.

Keep in mind I've been to over 10 psychiatrists, so these are mostly misdiagnoses:

Major depression, OCD, social phobia, bipolar, schizophrenia, learning disability (dyscalculia), and Generalized Anxiety Disorder

Major depression seems to be the one diagnosis of mine that every doctor seemed to agree on just about.
OCD is another label I have aquired, and my mom apparently has OCPD. Oh, I only have the "O" (obsessive), not the "C" (compulsive)
Social phobia is a fancy term for being shy
Bipolar is just flat out wrong; my moods tend to stay at relatively the same level
Schizophrenia is also wrong. I think my descriptions of an imaginary friend, hearing voices, etc was misunderstood. I don't "hear" my inner voice, but it's still there, you know? The doctor didn't understand.
One doctor said I had dyscalculia based off what I said. No tests done.
Generalized Anxiety Disorder was diagnosed by one doctor, although I forget exactly why

My therapist said I might have AvPD (avoidant personality disorder)
edit: I forgot Generalized Anxiety Disorder

I was originally thought to be ADHD. Turns out I have ADD and Asperger's, though.

Asked for DX year 2003. nothing conclusive ever came out of it.

Depression
Anxiety

who cares what type.

And this little tidbit "Exhibits schizoid tendencies." I don't believe I am really schizoid or avoidant.

Got put on anti-depressants in late teens. They did nothing at all - still not convinced they weren't placebos anyway. Oh and I was sent for counselling - the guy I had was so useless that he ended up telling me his problems . Made it worthwhile though, coz otherwise I just sat there with nothing to say.

I felt so screwed up in my teens, I decided I must be schizoid or something.

Afraid I never got past the first doctor I raised the idea of AS with. He told me that it wasn't possible to be diagnosed with AS as an adult, because I'd've been noticed as a kid and sorted out then. Too embarrassed to try again.

I've posted my "list" here before, but since you asked for it, here it is. Most of this is copied directly off of the sheet from a Residential Treatment Center where I lived for a year and a half.:

Dysthymia
Major (recurrent) Depressive Disorder
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
Social Anxiety Disorder
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder
Borderline Personality Disorder
Schizotypal Personality Disorder
Avoidant Personality Disorder
Dissociative Disorder - NOS
And then there was some consideration of Multiple Personality Disorder, but it didn't result in an actual diagnosis.

A lot of those weren't diagnoses that were made at different times, a bunch of them were "active" at the same time. They just kept adding stuff to the list because they couldn't figure out what was wrong with me.

Learning disabled
"a little bit autistic" as late as the early 90's by a psychologist. This was before Hans Asperger's work became known in the US.
Social phobia
Anxiety disorder
Depression

As an infant, I had epilepsy, but it went away when I was 2, for some weird reason. That's why I was labeled as LD and those others until I was 28, the seizures changed the way my brain was wired. I haven't had any symptoms of epilepsy since I was 2, otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to get a driver's license.

So far ive got:

emotionally unstable personality disorder, borderline type (I dont fit in with criteria in my opinion!! Im not irresponsibly impulsive, not liable to extreme outbursts of anger, nor do i have intense unstable relationships that get messed up!!)

Adjustment Disorder (apparently Im "prone" to them and they have back diagnosed me for having had them whenever i change ship/boat. more like AS dislike of routine changes to me)

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Unspecified Dissasociative Disorders, (have suffered dissasicitive fugues. Also they are convinced I dissasociate from all emotions).

ADD (my new shrink says it's the same as ADHD???)
Dysthymia
General Anxiety Disorder
Major Depressive Disorder
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Social Anxiety Disorder
