What is the difference between Intellectual Developmental Disorder and Specific Learning Disorder? Both of those neurodevelopmental disorders include difficulties with learning.

What is called "specific learning disability" in the United States is most often NOT accompanied by intellectual disability.

"Specific learning disability" almost always involves one modality----such as reading, writing, or arithmetic.

It's just there Intellectual Developmental Disorder looks very similar to Specific Learning Disorder, but includes problems with intellectual and adaptive functioning.

Within IDD, there is usually intellectual disability within most or all modalities. IQ's, and tests of how one functions in the world often reveal "subnormal" results.

Frequently, within specific learning disability, there is disability in relatively few areas. Most areas of intellectual functioning are usually not disabled. IQ's, and tests of how one functions in the world usually reveal "normal," or "above normal" results.

That makes sense.

Learning disability refers to deficits in certain academic skills like reading, math, comprehension, or handwriting. Intellectual disability refers to significant deficits in intellectual and adaptive functioning like problem‑solving, planning, abstract thinking or self preservation.
