Interesting implications for AS... being supposed emotionally dead... seems we should operate almost entirely in the cold state... but I know i've certainly done some stupid impulsive stuff :)

I agree in some aspect about being emotionally cold but at the same time I disagree I can be as emotional when I want to be.

I find it odd, this notion of "AS... being supposed emotionally dead." I've seen so many people get so bent outta shape over little things on this site. :?

My thoughts exactly.

It has always seemed to me that "logical" people and aspies are just as emotional as anybody else, the major difference being that many of us aren't so willing to admit it.

Well I'm not sure the nature of everyones problems here and what percent if any is attributed to ASD. Also I'm not sure how the article applies to ASD but I think it must is why I posted a link to it in the autism forum.

The gist of the article is in an emotional state you will make bad decisions. And in an unemotional state you will tend to not empathise with other people. The people on WP that are very emotional are making judgment mistakes online and IRL. Those who are unemotional are not supportive and/or understanding of other people(also due to faulty judgement).

Myself I am fairly unemotional. Prozac and fish oil have stabilized my mood to the point I have emotional blunting
(Thymoanesthesia).

I'm the rare feeling type personality on WP though so I am still more empathetic than a purely thinking type would be.

Please form a queue, you're behind Nurse Chapel who I seem to remember had quite a thing for men with pointed ears.

Aspies are not "emotionally dead." We're just a lot better at laying our emotions aside when making decisions than the general populace are.

I'm 'emotionally dead' most of the time. I have strong emotions, but they are usually not there. I feel nothing at all most of the time, and then some particular emotion switches on, very strongly. Then it turns off again.

The beauty of a spectrum is that most general statements made about those who are on it tend to be wrong. Heh.

Ditto, tho with me, anger can tend to boil on in the background on/off for days if I don't make attempts to focus on something else.
Same if someone has hurt me.
It is an odd conundrum as in terms of emotions, there seems to be such a variety among those with AS that I have met.
Some seem to be more emotion than logic, and others behave in such a way as to convince that they do not have feelings at all.

You need a certain degree of emotional involvement in life to make effective decisions. Its something lacking in me. For example, I tend to quit jobs or abandon friendships for more physical or rational reasons, but that isnt always the best thing in the long run.

Friendships at work or a satisfaction from a job well done will go a long way towards keeping an aspie at a job. Unfortunately, I dont get much of any satisfaction from that. I know that NOW, but it doesnt magically add what I need.

I had a huge crush on Spock when I was a kid. Used to imagine romantic encounters involving the two of us. Still do, actually.
