Whenever I do something that my family "approves of" they say that. When its something else, even when its a great accomplishment, I get "that's interesting" and sometimes nothing at all. I feel like I'm being "trained or something; manipulated. I'm open to be wrong but it seems subtle. Its been a frustrating 5 years without Mom.

Some things are just things NTs commonly do...out of habit.

Yes it is manipulative

However plenty of things are manipulative

They might not intend for it to be manipulative

Some people are just manipulative. They are just being "true to themselves"

They have "freedom of speech". Everyone has "freedom of speech", but not everyone is having sex with the boss

Manipulation is not illegal or immoral

Some people just talk way too much

Some people love jumping to conclusions

Some people are way too judgemental

Some people act like every time they are not happy it proves that someone violated their "rights"

Same as when they say "cool". It's manipulative in that it implies that they are so awesome that they have the moral right to veto anything that is not "cool" with them. But even the president doesn't have that "right"

"Can you" sounds like just because you "can", you have to

A lot of phrases are misleading or you should not take the literal misinterpretation

On the other hand, whatever

Precision of language

Semantics and pragmatics

What if they said the perfect statement, then what? Whooptie do. "Actions speak louder than words"

I guess it bothers me because I'm on the lower end of the family totom pole ,I believe, in their eyes. So they are opinionated about my life choices unless I do what they "suggest" then its a sly controlling tactic
