A better way to make decisions
Imagine how excited I was to come across this way of making decisions. It is called the Weighted Decision Matrix. I don't want to copy and paste the whole thing but it's here:

Of course we don't have time to do all this with every decision, just ones we can take our time over. But I love this sort of thing, like the prioritising grid in the next link to prioritise choices if we can't decide.

Interesting idea, though the explanation in that first link lacked the huge level of clarity I seem to need in order to understand anything, and the second one confused me greatly - just when I thought it was going to explain the concept, it flipped to talking about Jesus.
So I found this, which made the matter a bit clearer - it seems that basically you list all the criteria you can think of for each option, assign weighting numbers to each, then add up the products for each option and the one with the highest grand total is the option to go for. Or something like that. It lists some advantages and disadvantages.

Oh dear, sorry about the Jesus one. I didn't read it, I just saw the picture. Richard Nelson Bolles invented it and his explanation is MUCH better. All it means is, you list your choices on the vertical axis and again on the horizontal axis. Then you compare one with each of the others. So you only have to compare two things at once and not all of them together, which is overwhelming.
Hopefully this will help:

Thanks for your link too, it's very detailed indeed. I seem to need more of a big picture approach.

Yes the Jesus one went very odd after a promising start. I'm still trying to figure out what they thought weighted decision-making tools have to do with religion.
Sad to say I couldn't get your new link to work. It took me to the website but it kept saying "something went wrong." Happens to me a lot on websites with clever content.
So, you list your choices on each of two axes. I get that. How do you use that to compare them?
Some people will bring Jesus into anything. I can't imagine he used prioritising grids
Try this link instead of the one I gave you earlier? https://bit.ly/3jtMEP1
I'm hopeless at explaining things but I found this brilliant post by Beverly Ryle (below) about the prioritising grid. It's not the same as Richard Bolles' one but good enough. AND it's automated so it does it for you! And it doesn't mention Jesus.

Thanks, I tried the first link but the page wouldn't load (a common problem because I use an old OS that has no security updates any more, so I have to have a lot of malware-blocking plugins to keep me reasonably safe, and they tend to stop clever web pages from working).
But the second link worked a lot better. I still haven't twigged how to do it right, but it looks like I might get there if I keep messing with it. Unless it turns out that I "cannot fill that God-shaped hole with decision making tools," as the priests would have me believe. Anyway I won't criticise Jesus when it's so near to his birthday.

Oh that's a shame about the link but I'm glad the Beverly Ryle one worked. I love that prioritising grid, I use it so often that I can do simple prioritising of about 5 items in my head now!
