Hi all,

I'm wondering if something I do is considered stimming and does anyone else do something similar?

Using my index finger on my right (writing) hand I 'write' out words as I'm thinking. This could be on my thumb, other hand, leg or a surface near where my hand. On occasions I'll do this in the air but don't raise my hand very high. It's quite a subtle habit as I don't think anyone has said anything but then it may just look like fidgeting from an outside perspective.

As I've said at the start, is this stimming? Is it common? And does anyone else do this.

Thanks!! ! :D

I am not sure, but if it helps...

When someone is spelling something out, or I'm listening to a song (like ABCDEFU) that spells letters, out, I like to spell along with it in ASL. Kind of like a little dance for my hands. :)

I don't "speak" ASL fluently, I just know the alphabet and a few words and phrases, but if I know them, and they are relevant, I love to sign them out.

I do this too. I don't know if it counts as stimming but for whatever reason I guess it helps me think.

I don't know ASL but I do have hand dances I'll do when I listen to music. I call it stancing.
