Some days I feel more Autistic than others. I feel like I can barely function on these days and they usually don't have a trigger and can just randomly occur.

Yesterday was one of those days, I felt like I couldn't hold a single conversation for more than a minute, every time I tried to talk I could barely get anything intelligible out except just the basic "yeah" "is that so?". I had to go shopping and as I was walking around I felt the urge to sit down randomly and for some reason or other I started to mildly stim (which I never do in public) and it caused a lot of people stare. I knew what they were thinking but for some reason I just couldn't to play the part of normal and the Autistic side of me seemed to be taking over. It was a horrible feeling, I felt like an animal.. or at least I sensed I was being treated like one.

This has happened to me before so many times, it's as though I just slip into my fully autistic side. I have no idea why this happens, the only thing I can guess is that it's sometimes (but not always) tied to the end of my menstrual cycle.

Yes, that happens to me too. I would lock myself in when it happens to me though.

Lately I have found myself in a strange position in my life. And I am stuck. I can't go out of the house unless it has a purpose behind it. Like going to work. But, even going to work is getting hard. I just want to stay at home and do my research and plan things I am working on.

But, I am having a great deal of time getting out and dealing with people and the sensory inputs. I just want to stay home all the time.

I just feel stuck. Nothing driving me but my current special interest. It has a purpose, but it won;t do any good if I can't get out of the house

During periods of tiredness, stress, or burnout you are going to seem more autistic. People obsess and worry that they are becoming more autistic thus increasing stress. It becomes a negative loop. You are not really more autistic, your coping or masking abilities are just less during these periods.

I am not female so I can not comment on periods.

Every so often fatigue creeps up and I catch myself on doing something untoward. example was yesterday, when after a run of 4 night shifts, 11 hour private job, then working away for three days an offer of a meet up on Sunday resulted in me feeling huge stress and near meltdown.

At other times of fatigue not noticed, i have found i have done something socially in-appropriate, once or twice landed in an awkward situation as a result.

Times like these have fuelled my suspicions about being somewhere on the spectrum; on the good days, which are many, however, I feel a bit of a fraud over those same suspicions.

I do observer today I am enjoying lots of sensory time and NoPeople time, and feeling a lot more at ease in myself.

I will follow the same view as an earlier contributor, it is more the case that some days the energy for the compensation strategies is not there and the underlying autistic traits are thus less well concealed or compensated.

Yeppers. I certainly have days that I go on 'full blown autie mode'. For me that kinda stuff is all tied up in and directly related to stress.

I have good days, bad days and really bad days. Sometimes I find it harder to keep up my 'mask'; if I'm tired or emotionally worn out then social behaviours are usually the first to go. I think it's just a case of energy conservation.

I think we female are to some degree affected by hormonal change every month. I have observed that my coping abilities seem to disappear around the time before my period starts. If I am also exhausted and under extreme stress, I may even shut down altogether. I can't speak, my brain is slow t o process information and I just don't want to see any human.

Yes. There are some days when I feel like there is no way I can hold a conversation with people because I just feel like I cannot face them. Other days I have little problem talking to people. I don't socialize much anyway, so I this doesn't become too much of a problem for me.

Yes...like now...I feel more weird than usual but its usually situational..it's like I'm reverting back to my grade school days..I make more mistakes...I'm more afraid of doing things...I avoid people more...I think it has something to do with my current work environment....it's been toxic almost narcissistic...I've just recently recovered from what you might call a shutdown...I've already resigned from my work...but was told to wait for another six months for a replacement...in fact I wouldn't even considered autism if not for my research as to why this events are happening to me leading me to aspergers syndrome....so the idea of me being in the spectrum is still new to me and to be honest I'm still not convinced....but I think the people that I'm working for knows what I am before i did because they know exactly what buttons to push.....I really thought I could pass as normal...

I definitely have good and bad days. On good days I can almost pass as 'normal'. On bad days, I feel very lonely because I cannot connect to people at all (even close friends), stim almost constantly (mostly little things - finger flicking or tapping, hand flapping, quiet chair leg kicking, pressure or pain stims etc.), and can barely have a conversation (I listen, but cannot really respond, or have eye-contact).

I find no correlation with external events or similar - it is quite random and lacking pattern.

Yes, and I think it's related to diet and allergens (gluten, dairy etc.). We have to keep in mind that Autism is a neurological disorder, or in other words a physical issue. We are more sensitive than NTs when it comes to food, eating the wrong ones sends our nervous system into haywire and worsens all the symptoms; sensory processing, brain fog, speech issues, tics, stimming, asociality etc. I've personally experienced this myself, after drinking a load of milk (for example) I go back into that "autistic state" where I can only respond to people with "yes and no" answers, and the inertia is so bad I can barely even move.

It's actually one of key beliefs in the GAPS diet, which has been used for a while to treat, or at least alleviate autism.

Just a heads up, when you buy gluten free products they're usually loaded with more sugar as substitute. I avoid them. There are only a few breads that are genuinely healthy.

If you don't want to drink milk that's fine, but please try to get your calcium from a source of broccoli or other leafy greens for the sake of your bones.

I've personally never had diet affect my ASD symptoms. There really isn't a connection between ASD symptoms with anything except my period. I do think I'm slightly anemic though and we all KNOW getting tired usually draws out all the things we try to hide.

I recently stopped eating dairy and I am sleeping better. No congestion and I have stopped having nightmares. I was tested for food allergies when I was in high school and was told to eat strictly red meat, fruits, and vegetables. Try changing your diet I think it makes a big difference.
