Antihistamines can help sometimes with anxiety problems. Can you share which antihistamines have helped you with that?

Please share your experience with these antihistamines:

Promethazine
Dipenhydramine
Dimenhydrinate
Hydroxyzine
Doxylamine

thanks

The only prescription antihistamine I have ever tried is Atarax (Hydroxyzine) and it was for itchy hives. It completely knocked me out. I slept for many hours, more than normal, then woke up and went out briefly but I was still very groggy and I went back home and slept more. It was pretty awful. I ended up cutting the tiny tablets into four pieces, and taking one fourth the dose to try to deal with the hives without getting knocked out.

I have a similar reaction to Benadryl, which is a non-prescription antihistamine, usually used for runny nose and itchy eyes caused by colds or allergies. If I take it before bed it does help me fall asleep but I feel like a zombie the whole next day. It's pretty terrible and I avoid it.

I would not consider taking any antihistamines for this reason.

I don't take antihistamines. I get injections for my allergies.

Dipenhydramine doesn't even make me sleepy -- or any drowse medicines for that matter.

Like how melatonin reacts to my body; it gives me jet lag like sensations, sleep deprivation symptoms while skipping going through an all nighter for that.

At least it doesn't make me weird (read: slow) like most OTC antihistamines.

Actifed. Not only it really helps my ISS (Irritable Sinus Syndrome), it also makes me drowsy, and I love sleeping.

I also take Avomine, which is a travel sickness pill but this is known to make me really drowsy and get a good night's sleep.

If I don't take either of these I don't get a good night's sleep at all, so usually I take either one or the other. Not sure how healthy this is though...
