Does anybody else have to consciously remember which hand they write with to tell the difference?

I am better at left and right now but I do still occasionally get mucked up not nearly as much as I used to though.

Yes, I always have to do that. Especially in gym class I forget which foot I step out when I throw a ball and which way right and left is.

not really but when I was younger I'd tell left from right based on the hand I would place over my heart for the pledge

I have to consciously imagine writing to remember which is which.

Interestingly, I remember when I was at primary school our teacher had a way for us to remember. You're all gonna love this 'you WRITE with your RIGHT'! !! Well guess what teach, I'm LEFT handed along with about 10% of the population so thanks for that! It really helps!

So do I blame my left and right mix-ups on being dyspraxic, possible Aspergers or a really shoddy education? Personally I like to blame the teacher, it makes for a better story

I did when I was a kid - but years of trying to fix my handwriting broke me of any ambidexterity and made me a firm righty. That said - I almost never write - my handwriting never did get fixed, thankgod for keyboards.

Whenever anyone uses those directions, I form a pencil grip to figure them out.

Lefties are discriminated ;)

Luckily I'm right-handed so your teacher's rule works for me.:D

Yep, I always always have problems with L and R in any context.

No, I'm so right-handed I type faster with only one hand! You'd have to see it to believe it.

I do the thing where I hold my thumbs and forefingers in the "L-shape" and the one that actually looks like an L is my left.

Yup. I still confuse my lefts and rights. I have to physically move my writing hand (left) up and say "left" and repeat with my other hand, to get my lefts and rights right.

As for the "you write with your right" I heard that in school too. That may be why for so long, I hated that left was left. To me, left seemed better suited to be called right and vice versa. In fact, to this day, left still seems as though it's really the right.

Am I making sense?
