Why I'm always tired:

1) use of anti-depressants
2) need to catch up on the sleep I missed before due to depression
3) not enough physical activity, probably. I'm too emotionally hungry to go and run around the gym not talking to anyone all day! As a result, I don't get a workout, so I'm not tired (and exercise also helps you sleep more effectively). So I don't sleep fully and am still tired when I wake up.
4) nothing stimulating in my life... stimulation has the same effect on people as exercise, but in a different way...

I've been like this since grade 8, maybe even before that... sometimes (not anymore so much) especially when I stand up or just wake up and get up, I see illuminated grayish-brown sandy foggy stuff in front of my eyes, then it scatters a bit painfully, sometimes back into my eyes and head, and I feel like passing out (very sleepy too) and actually start swaying and/or losing feeling. Does anyone else feel like this?

That's happened to me before.

I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue many years ago. However, all my family recovered except me.

I also suffer from major depression. I have only found out in the past year that not only do I not produce enough serentonin and therefore suffer depression, but I also do not produce enough of another neurotransmitter- nor adrenelin, and therefore was always exhausted. I am on very high doses of effexor so that I can so more.

It is hard to be exhausted all the time. I hope you find a solution soon

I have a major lack of energy, so I'm tired quite often. It's mostly from the lack of exercise and physical activity that makes me tired. Heck, I drink six to eight cans of coca-cola, and I still feel tired afterwards.

The Celexa is making me less exhausted in one way, but a side effect is that it makes me tired in another way, but at least I'm not too depressed to sleep... I'm high-ish when I'm awake and when I'm tired and want to go to sleep, no problem, I'm still high-ish, I'm not afraid of sleep any more. I don't get why they don't just give us seratonin and not SSRIs and SNRIs. All SSRIs and SNRIs do, as far as I know, is redistribute the seratonin and adrenaline, noradrenaline, not help us make more of it. I used to think that I had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and maybe I do, but at least I know the probable cause of it. :)v Are you still tired all the time? How much are you able to do? I have energetic moments and that actually helps me be less tired; I think you need some sort of stimulation... like a life! *takes the opportunity to plug the commune thread in the Random Discussion forum* Also join my little club just for us depressives! EDIT: Samourai, I was addicted to milk for many years and milk has a sedative side effect so maybe that contributes to my problem too... and caffeine makes people tired in the long term often... especially pop because they feel sick from all the sugar and have to sleep it off.

That's called orthostatic hypotension. It's when your blood pressure drops when you stand up suddenly. It's fairly common, and happens to everyone in my family.

Yes, I'm always tired. Not literally. More like "often", and it is more of a brain fog, really. I could run a mile, even when I'm tired, and I often do. But drudgery is hard when I'm in that state, as are social things and (depending on how I feel at the moment) writing can be hard, too.

My brain reacts this way to certain foods. Namely processed things, simple carbs, and sugars. Plus, I require way more rest than I get.

The solution is pretty clear cut, but... easier said than done. I don't like going to bed! And I like bread, yum.

Excessive serotonin in the blood can damage heart valves. Not sure how well it crosses the blood-brain barrier either and it might have a much shorter half-life compared to available SSRI's.

Serotonin precursors like tyrptophan or 5-htp can partial over come the limitation of direct use of serotonin but not without some risk and still lower efficacy than SSRI's.

My weird sleep schedule is part of what makes me tired. I seldom can get more than 4-5 hours of uninterrupted sleep.
After I wake up I putter around a bit, and then try to go back to sleep, but can only get as far as a semi-r.e.m. state where i am also still semi conscious and wake up frequently and drift off over and over again.
Also..I don't get regular exercise.
I am frequently in a state of sensory overload...
During my old sleep scheduel, I would wake up early in the morning....and now I have developed a combination between my boyfriend's nocturnal..stay up till 6 a.m. and sleep till 2...and my old scheduel.....it's all messed up.
Also last night was my annual Leo party...so I am tired right now because I have had a hangover all day.

i'm suffering from fatigue for years now, but i dont have any reasons for it. i've always slept enough and well enough. anti depressants didnt make it better or worse. activites outside and sport didnt help. and i feel more like there is too much stimulation in life for me.
im now taking a drug called amantadine. its the first thing i found that at least helps a little.

Tony Attwood reports social interactions for people with Asperger's is exhausting. This is because intellect needs to be used when interacting, as opposed to NT's who do it intuitively.

I've been tired for years! I've been on anti-depressants, but finally started sessions with a psychologist last week. My energy levels have improved a bit already!

I completely relate to this!

I also had problems with tiredness since childhood and was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in my early 20s.
Turned out I had a gluten allergy, and since giving up gluten I have felt a lot less tired.

So is it worth perhaps getting tested for allergies?

The anti-depressants don't help either. I took Citalopram and they made me virtualy narcoleptic! I could only stay awake for 4 hours a day!

I take fluoxetine now which is nowhere near as bad.

That's interesting. Seratonin got its name from the observation that it tends to strengthen blood vessels!

I've always slept more than others would find to be normal... I also have a tendency to oversleep in the morning and then stay up extra late at night... never really solved the problem, but i've learned to live with it

I have been described as tired looking all the time.
I kind of do feel tired quite a lot. I know I have been for the past couple days.
My sleep pattern is real random. I can often fall asleep in the afternoon if I let myself but I can't fall asleep before midnight at night. I'll usually way oversleep in the morning too.
Like last night I felt like going in around 1 am, did so. Woke up at 4 and just had to go scarf some cookies down and back to bed at 5. I got up at 11am.
Only way to get myself to sleep earlier is to drug myself with sleep aids but the effect lingers long into the morning so I might still not get up til noon.
