I often make a short hum, in a special way so that it's kind of resounding in my own ears. It sounds loud to myself, but may not do to others. Normally I don't do it when there are others around, but if I only make a single short hum or some few with others around, they don't seem to notice it.
It's probably to be considered as a stim, think I've read about "vocal stimming" once.

Sometimes when Im really tweakin out Ill sort of make a noise like that, but nowadays its pretty rare. It reminds me though, of when I try to sing, I cant really go down or up a note, its always monotone. If I manage to get the note right, I end up sounding like a dying cow  Im an excellent vocalist for a black/death metal band though

I have caught myself a few times humming to the noise of the vacuum cleaner. I try not to do it anymore, but sometimes I do it automatically without even knowing until someone tells me to stop doing it.

Some people said that they whistle...I can't whistle at all.

i sing alot...but i constantly am making up melodies and whatnot...toneless or monotone humming produced by other people kinda drives me insane...raises my hackles.... I guess maybe because i am so sensitive to tones and melodies and whatnot.

Yeah, it bugs the hell out of me too.

I do this thing where I force air through my teeth and it feels really cool. The only problem is, I can't... stop... doing it. And it's really fricken odd and annoys the s**t outta me. My girlfriend thinks I do it when I'm disstressed, but I'm doing it right now and I'm not necessarily stressin. I don't even think there's a word for this thing I do because I basically invented it.
