Can anyone read a book and watch TV at the same time and take in both as well. I can infact it helps me get into the programme I'm actually watching as well.

Well I certainly can't!
I'm a strictly 'one thing at a time' person :) .

Hell no. I can't even read a book when there's a TV on in a different room, nevermind watch it at the same time.

If they are both non-fiction I can. If fiction is thrown into the mix I can't follow to ficticious stories. But I can follow it if one is fiction and the other is fact. If they are mixed I would prefer the book to be fact and the tv show fiction.

For instance I watch the discovery channel/history channel etc.. while reading journals all the time.

However I can't listen to music and read at the same time... for whatever reason that just completely throws me. I don't know how those people who wear ipods and read magazines/books on the train/bus each day do it. I'd be completely lost.

I can watch TV and read at the same time and make sense of both - unless one of them is particularly complicated.

I can read and listen to music at the same time.

I can talk on the phone and write (i.e. write something completely unrelated to my phone conversation) at the same time.

I struggle to hold a conversation (whether via telephone or in person) when I am watching TV.
Although I do prefer the TV to be on when I'm having an 'in person' conversation as it helps reduce the intensity of face to face communication.

My Mom can read and watch TV at the same time. I have always wondered how she does that, as I cannot. I have a very one track mind.

Not only can't I multi task, I have trouble uni tasking! You could say I'm a good "fractional tasker" I can do one part of one task at a time. (most of the time)

I'll add a bit more here I can watch ie an episode of Star Trek or Doctor Who or watch a comedy like can't think of any at the moment and I can read U2 by U2 or some challenging factual book at the same time and keep track.

I can't, it will drive me nuts. TV and stereo on at the same time can cause me to meltdown.

Yes and I always do it. It would be wasting of time if I only watched TV despite he fact that I could do something more in the same time. I always read something. I can do it really very quickly.

No - if I'm trying to read I have to turn the sound off on the TV!

Even the flickering light would distract me.

If I'm reading I read. I'll sit quietly for many hours and read as long as there aren't any sounds to distract me.

While I'm reading a book, I can take a break and go check on a agme on the telly in another room, but that's about it.
