Question about echolalia

I never had echolalia during childhood, but I started having echolalia as I got older. What does that mean?

I started to constantly copy cat sounds, as I also like cats, although I try to keep my echolalia to myself as I am worried that some people might be annoyed by it.

I don't know how common it is, but for whatever it's worth, I can tell you that I have it more as an adult than I remember having it as a child.

I imagine that echolalia is similar to any other stim or repetitive behavior. They sometimes get swapped for other stims over the course of time, but the basic pattern of repetitive behaviors remains.

I basically didn't do it at all as a kid. I did a bit of palilalia when I was in my early 20s.

These days, I've gotten used to the satisfaction that comes from repeating back the PA messages at work.

I guess I did a bit when I was a teen learning to reproduce sounds from rap albums, but it felt different from either echolalia or palilalia.

I think it likely just means that you've changed a bit over time.

Palillia might be why I like music with dialogue samples.

I don't really remember the riffs but I never forget 'We gotta be hard, no mercy, we're going in like Charles Bronson, we don't stop until the screaming starts, you dig?'

hmmm... until this thread , , , , Was never sure what exactly echocholia was?.. Saw it in another young child one day
with a smaller middle aged family but the child was no more than five ....And as they came in , i just had a strange feeling , about the hotel clerk asking me my phone # for the check in info. And sure as I expected , even talking softly from across the room , i heard the little boy repeat my phone number exactly in a similiar intonation to my own.... It gave me a huge smile .. Because , i suspected I was getting my first understanding of Echocolia.And suspected it was a facet of autism. And now I see imitating and repeating things is a part of it . And even down to a similiar intonation..Because since i was 3 i started imitating all of the neighbourhood cats , and even a few dogs But they have harsh voices i think. And still now over 50---- years laters , i can still do it exactly the same way. And have a full repetiore of various cat sounds regarding their senses,/ intonations,and use them appropriately , as best as i know... ..The issue with automatic accents is another thing...its weird when i catch myself doing regional accents of people i am around .
