What are some examples of someone that thought outside the box and solved a problem?

So, my stepdad was a locksmith. I used to go on calls with him.

One day we were called to location at a gas station where a lady was locked out of her car. There was a toddler with her, outside the car.

My dad got out all his tools, to no avail. Nothing was working to unlock the car.

We kept trying for half an hour.

Someone, maybe me, got the idea to just have the toddler reach her hand through the car window which was slightly ajar, and have her pull up on the lock.

It worked.

My dad did not charge the lady for the call.
