So I finished what turned out to be 12+ hours of a general mental health evaluation -autism. It started good, I was real and cooperative the entire time. Today was my last day and from beginning to end, the guy got more and more impatient with me. He was hurrying to finish at a certain time. I finally asked if I was annoying him?! He then said I was over reporting for the various diagnosis I was scheduled to examine. I said "I don't think I have all that!!" Where did he get all these obscure disorders? I made it clear I just answered the questions honestly EVERYTIME. some were so vague, I could have had different scenarios in mind. We ended well, but I'm not sure I trust his temperament as far as the final score. This was hurried and I was dragged through it. Anybody relate and how serious should I take this? It was free. I WILL tell my therapist about this too.

Has this person not ever dealt with autistic people? It's not surprising that you'd tack up a lot of possible disorders, it's the evaluations job to do the work of a differential diagnosis and figure out what the most reasonable diagnosis is to figure out treatment options.

I've personally received nearly all the common misdiagnoses as well as an impressive collection of psychosomatic disorders as well.

Whatever happens, just realize that a positive result is probably extremely reliable in this case and a negative might want to retry.

Good luck.

I didn't even think of that! Yeah my interactions with his moody, bossy attitude clashed real quick. And it's sad because he used to be my therapist and did the same thing. I didn't want him to evaluate me for that reason but it started out so well. I'm taking your advice because he didn't take enough time to solidify even what he will say "positive" on. Thanks for confirming that!

Unfortunately, it is a common issue as development disorders haven't been particularly well studied if they don't show up super early and result in traits that are too strong to ignore.

Nobody even started publishing research on masking until 1999, which makes it hard for anybody to draw a clear line.

1999?! I cant imagine how much trouble people had way before that. People can be cruel and dismissive. So glad to have such great info these days.
