What are some examples of statements and actions that other people made that appeared to be out of character for their personalities?

A couple of years ago I had a co-worker, a scruffy looking man in his 40's, that was a heavy smoker and often turned up to work smelling alcohol from drinking the night before. I was surprised when he told me he was a vegetarian and held strong beliefs about animal rights.

The only thing that comes to mind are people who seem kind and reasonable until they get into (toxic) management and then they become domineering and irrational. I suppose there is a study similar to this; is that "out of character" or a part of....?

I constantly mention this omg! My tattooed biker Mexican dad loves Downtown Abbey and my mom who hates stupid humor likes Austin Powers; whenever anyone mentions stuff, I don't think makes sense for their character, I bring it up and they just laugh. Like seriously, stop, you're messing up the algorithm!
I'm so happy other people think about this stuff too! :)

I had a coworker who seemed very pleasant until she got promoted to department head. So bad and insufferable at management that 2 of 4 FT+benefits employees, plus 2-3 others, quit because of her.

I don't think it was toxic management. I think she simply lacked natural leadership skills so she overcompensated.

People can be taught how to be better managers, but they can't be taught how to be good managers. You either have leadership talent or you don't. The ones who learned it entirely from a book are always the worst because they're under the illusion they know what they're doing.
