Hi,

I'm in my assessment process and next up is the ADOS 2. For some reason, i'm really nervous about this test. I keep googling, looking at videos on youtube, and i just can't understand what they're looking for and how i'm supposed to respond. My psychiatrist said just to be myself. I asked if there was something to prepare in advance, but she said it was better to show up unprepared. But hey, i'm most likely autistic, being prepared is what i do!!

Like.. if they tell me to play with toy cars, pencils or whatever.. i'm not sure, i'll probably laugh and get really embarrassed.

I can't even for the life of me understand what they are looking for and how they score this thing. It all just seems.. random?

How did you handle the ADOS 2?

I understand your nervousness. I think for assessment accuracy, it would be best for you to take the test unprepared. Try to unmask if you are a heavy masker and then do what comes naturally. That's probably the best way to get the most accurate results. I hope everything goes well.

I agree that you should not try to prepare for the test (other than possibly collecting records that might be relevant...for example, old report cards, maybe). And I definitely think you should just be yourself...after all, that is who you want the diagnosis for.

And I would also say: Don't worry about it! I thought the assessment was kind of fun!

I think some embarrassment may have been involved...not embarrassing the patient but rather the assessor! Usually they are doing Autism Assessments on children so the tests seem designed so that children can do them. I think the psychologist who did my assessment was a little embarrassed by asking me to do tasks designed for children.

I didn't mind, though. It was amusing and I see no reason that it shouldn't be able to get a correct result even with someone my age...though I may have smiled.

Have fun! Enjoy! Cooperate, because you want a correct result.
