I am not sure if this is related to anything but I am seriously a really picky sleeper. Once I get used to one way it has to stay exactly that way or it takes me forever to get comfortable... here is just how picky I am haha.

1. ALWAYS have to have a fan on no matter what season it is.
2. Have to have something covering me.
3. Have to have a pillow covering my face.
4. Have to sleep on my side... can't sleep on my back.
5. Have to wear certain things... no shirt or socks, jean shorts (yes seriously...)

If any of these are not right I am very uncomfortable and it makes it really hard for me to get to sleep. I stayed the night at a friends this weekend for a little geek get together before school started and it took me over an hour to get comfortable and go to sleep. It was just too huge of a situation change from what I was used too. I also found I was really, really grumpy the next day even though I got enough sleep.

Anyone else the same way?

P.S. Sorry if that is a little too much information.. just want people to know what I mean by "picky" lol

Oh yes, I totally have this issue.
I have to have total darkness.
No noise.
Cannot sleep on a normal mattress as things always seem to dig into me.
Takes me forever to get my pillows comfortable sometimes.
I now sleep on an air mattress with a pile of duvets on top.

Omg I forgot to mention that! I really hate lights too. I actually taped my curtains shut with box tape rofl. I am that bad. Yeah I am the same with pillows... I usually toss and turn for half an hour before I go to sleep. oh few more I forgot... these are bad... and I am serious too lol.

1. Have to have the opening of the pillow case of the pillow I am laying on facing forward the same way I am laying
2. Same with pillow I am using to cover my face.. opening has to be pointing down.

yeah I am weird.. leave me alone. =( lol

Not really, I have to have the opening of my pillowcase the same way I am laying too, but then my pillowcases are, um  comfort objects. I sniff them to sleep...my own scent I suppose. Pretty revolting smell I imagine for anyone else though

I taped my black-out blind to the window, but it doesn't usually stay the entire night. I'm trying to get a bit more used to light though.

Personally, I can't sleep on my back, I have to have something draped over my waist, and I almost always have a hand beneath my head. I can't have something over/on my face. In the winter, my blankets have to go in a certain order; in the summer they can be switched but only to eliminate unnecessary layers. My pillow usually has to start leaned up against the headboard in an angle which I'm sure does my neck no good.

However, my problems with sleeping have less to do with being picky and more to do with my nature. I toss and turn quite a bit, and I'm a very light sleeper. If I fall asleep with a noise playing, I can sleep through that noise. However, if a new noise starts, I wake up.

I tend to be a very picky sleeper, and also have developed insomnia recently (suffering from it right now! :( ) I can't sleep with the door open or anyone else in my room, and I have to sleep in a strappy top (I never used to have that until I had insomnia, which is odd :? ). I also have to have a blanket over me, and I can only sleep on my side, and the room has to be pitch black.

this thread just made me so happy! I am such a picky sleeper (I'll spare the details), and it is good to know that I'm not the only one.

1. Pillows have to be arranged a certain way.
2. I have a certain blanket...I have a favorite for winter and a favorite for summer, always have to have a cover.
3. No noise.
4. Certain clothes to sleep in.
5. Always sleep on my side....fall asleep on my left and roll to my right in the morning.
6. Have to have a small lite on, I get really disorientated if I wake up and it's pitch dark.

all I can say is wow.

how can you guys exist if you have to live somewhere other than where you are now living?

I mean, what if you had to evacuate because of flooding, or a hurricane or a wild fire?

sleeping on a cot in the gym of a school, or where ever the Red Cross could set up?

if, gawd forbid, you lose your home in some way or have to go out into the world?

what would you do then, have you ever thought? in an emergency??

just curious,

I have had to do those things, so I wanted to know how others handled it, too.

Yeah I have to have the fan going because of the sound... it is like my white noise. Actually, if the fan stops in the middle of the night because the power goes out or something, I will almost immediately wake up. Not really a bad thing since I need to reset my alarm lol.

Oh another thing.. I tend to have very.. VERY freaky dreams... ever since I was a kid... I don't think I have ever had a dream that could be considered normal; as in it could ever happen in real life. Anyone the same way?

Yeah and I am afraid if something happened where I would have to adjust to a new sleep situation.. it would take me a very long time and I bet I would be very agitated for awhile.

I need to have a fan going, I need a little bit of light, I need a diaper on and I don't have to explain that one, and I must be cuddling with Sid, as I fall asleep.

1. Have to have cool, slick, high thread-count cotton sheets.
2. Fan on even in winter so it drowns out other ambient noises that will drive me nuts like ticking clocks
3. Sleep in my side, hugging a pillow.
4. I need my space. Cuddling is nice in the appropriate time, sleeping is not that time. LOL!
5. No socks, long cotton knit pj pants and no collar to a shirt- collar flopping on my neck will drive me nuts!
6. I have to stick my feet out of the covers even if it's cold

I know what you mean, I also usually have very warped dreams, and my dreams often seem very colourful and cartoonish. Recently I had a dream where a friend and I got caught sabotaging a government meeting, and were sent to a pirate ship as punishment. In the end we used a taxi to escape... :P (I have to admit, as freaky as my dreams are, I love them at times! :D )

i like to sleep on my belly, or at least on my side. i like to place a pillowcase over my eyes to keep out light, but if it's pitch black darkness i don't need one ( it still feels better, though). I must keep one foot out of the sheets, unless it's super-cold. Just a habit, I suppose.
